Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
Very true but I don't recall seeing any sign of the ideal conditions for gasoline to reach those temperatures, i.e., a blueish flame with no smoke in those videos did you? Extracted from the Wikipedia page you referenced. Note that these are theoretical, not actual, flame temperatures produced by a flame that loses no heat. The closest will be the hottest part of a flame, where the combustion reaction is most efficient. This also assumes complete combustion (e.g. perfectly balanced, non-smoky, usually bluish flame). Several values in the table significantly disagree with the literature[1] or predictions by online calculators. Also as you correctly mentioned, putting them out, with gasoline fires, they are easy to put out quickly (unless you have vast amounts of gasoline as in this case Buncefield fire - Wikipedia)

At least the ambulance station was just across the other side of the roundabout, that was handy, eh?

It does show the ferocity of these batteries once they catch fire, with the plant still burning on day 2. Incidently I came across this video which was commissioned by the UK government back in September 2006 on the e spread in car parks, underground and also in multi-storey car parks, the year before the Kings Dock car park was completed, which had the devastating fire in 2017. The fire in that case was started by a 16-year-old diesel Land Rover, and by that time there were over 227,373 hybrid and PHEV cars sold and registered here in the UK and a very high probability that there were quite a few parked in the Liverpool car park and thus contributed to the huge temperatures that destroyed the building fabric, and we already know that Lithium burns far hotter than either petrol or diesel, thus melting the steel reinforcements in the concrete floors. In the Luton fire there would have been far more Hybrids and PHEV and also BEV cars involved in the blaze, even though it was once again a diesel car that started it. This is interesting for 1 or 2 people but I doubt it would make much of an in road over here, what are your thoughts?

the truth about electric cars
Oh dear thats less than ideal then, is that a high speed charger, if so then it is extremely bad news as they are in very short supply judging by the Zapmap, which seems to indicate that the vast majority of chargers are 50kW or less.

Pretty sure, the fire never really gave out black smoke until it reached the actual ambulance body as can be seen clearly in the video. For it to be diesel, there would need to a fuel leak and the fire to on the ground, but there is no sign of fire low down or on the ground at the rear of the vehicle when the black smoke started being emitted. There was some evidence however that some diesel might have leaked out at the rear later in the video, but that could also have been burning fibre glass falling from the body?

the truth about electric cars
I never really came across him before he got an EV but have watched a few of his old videos and I do find that his style of presenting is rather entertaining but at the same time I'm aware that these are his own views that he is expressing, so I never attach too much importance to them. It's rather like reading people's reviews on various products on Amazon etc, you have to take a lot of them with a large pinch of salt as some people read manuals first, others toss them away and blunder their way through and then write poor reviews as a result. With LPG back in the day you did really have to plan a trip well if you strayed away from your local area. TBH I always thought that the biggest users of LPG were farmers.

the truth about electric cars
I was thinking more about the past than the future. I had the misfortune of being shunted from the back in a multiple pile up in Grays, at some traffic lights. I had stopped at a red traffic light and off duty policemen smashed into my boot (Ford Cortina I had at the time). The policemen also had been hit in his boot and shunted forwards into me. The car that hit him was uninsured, and the driver legged it over a garage wall and was away. The car subsequently was also discovered to have been stolen as well. My car was a company car so all was well in that dept and I get another new car as a result. But the point I was making was that if there was a levy on the fuel to cover VED and also insurance then no matter what happened, there would be no argument about getting everything sorted out. All of these untaxed cars that being used would be done away as any car that was being used must be using fuel and so tax collected, regardless of if it was brought in cans or transferred from vehicle to another vehicle, does not matter and does not need ANPR's, bar code readers etc.Maybe we might have less potholes on the road today if such a system had been implemented years ago. With regard to people with money, I agree that would not make much difference to them but maybe it would prevent those with less pockets acquiring those thirsty cars on the 2nd hand market later? Alcohol, totally agree with you on that front, I purchased 6 bottles of beer at Christmas as my oldest son likes a drink and was supposed to be coming to us for Christmas, but he caught Covid so never happened. I have had 1 of those bottles and there is a good chance that some will still there next Christmas 👍.

the truth about electric cars
@RootedI'm still not convinced, yes no doubt there is an element of playing to the gallery and the EV haters in parts of his videos, as you say about the stretching of the lead to make it reach etc but one thing I'm clear about in my mind is that the Taycan was purchased as a natural progression from the previous Porsches he has owned as it was at the time the only electric car they made, I can believe that he chose to go with the Taycan following all the guff that has been sprouted about 2030 and the national charging network massive growth plans. I can also believe that he is disillusioned by the reality and that these videos are not the reason for the purchase of the car, but are born out of his personal experiences, and he has discovered a way to actually make some money out of that. His main videos are about being a food critic and travel and as a regular viewer of his videos you will be aware that many of the EV videos are actually shot as part of his journey to various restaurants to shoot a food video, so I don't dismiss everything as being BS, there is some factual content as well.

the truth about electric cars
It is equally possible that these cheap slots might not be made available, and again equally possible that at some point in the future, even basic cheap rate slots could be withdrawn as the authorities would need to balance their books as the sales of fossil fuels slow down as more EV ownership is taken up. They will need to replace the revenue raised from fossil fuels with some sort of taxation on the electricity used with EV cars. I have long thought that the entire debate over untaxed and uninsured vehicles could be solved at a stroke with the current fossil based vehicles, they all need fuel, so stick a levy on each litre of fuel purchased. Those that use the roads more, would be paying more. It would also encourage those with the biggest gas guzzlers to look more efficient vehicles, which would have benefited everybody. Those with more than one vehicle would also benefit, so if you had a convertible car that was only used in the summer, that would be automatically taxed and insured each time the weather permitted you to use it.

the truth about electric cars
@Rooted How do you know that Lee Davey knows the Osprey charger just down the road is a 50kW (I assume you are talking about the one in Leeds)? Perhaps, because his car can make use of the really high speed chargers, that likes to use those that whenever he can, without having to go miles of the most direct and fastest route. If you had a ICE car would you be prepared to go miles off your route to fill up at a cheaper station? I, for one, certainly would not do that as anything saved in cost is lost in wear and tear and time, how much do you value your time at? One thing life has taught me is that unless you can 100% prove that someone is not telling the truth at that specific time, then give them the benefit of the doubt. I know that I won't lose any sleep over it either way as I know that it is unlikely to affect me, and if it does later in life, the situation should have improved leaps and bounds by then. I did find the last video you liked to interesting, though, and the points he raised in that about freedom of speech and geofencing etc are cause for concern. If we just continue to be laid back and not start to questioning things a bit more, just what could we be committing future generations to?

I find the whole thing shocking and to think that the same situation appears to be going on today, these are vehicles that are supposed to emergency response, designed to carry extremely vulnerable people who could not escape if they had to without other peoples assistance, do the authorities have zero compassion?

the truth about electric cars
I just assumed that the author was not thinking of a full battery range, but a weekly mileage for a daily commute of around 40 -50 miles each way which make sense.

Correct, there will be statistics for them and many more things, but will we ever be able to get access to them, that is the question.

the truth about electric cars
I've not yet seen that McMaster video and the Tesla but one reason I can think of for why he claims that there are no Ultra Rapid chargers on his route or area may be is because he does not want to deviate from his route and is trying to treat driving an EV in the fashion that an ICE driver would, and that is to pop into a filling station along his route? As a company car driver and covering a large part of the country, I used to favour Texaco garages because their loyalty scheme seemed to me to be one of the best but since I retired, that is not case for in Essex, the number of their garages has dropped dramatically. I used to have 3 or 4 Texaco forecourts, now there is only the 1 in my area. Plenty in London, but I seldom go that way and on route to the various air bases I go to, there are none on route either. Perhaps it is a similar case for the Taycan man, I don't know or profess to know, but I offer this maybe as a possibility? One thing I do know, is that he has been a Porsche man for many years, and so I expect that his reasoning for dipping into the EV Porsche was because it is/was being touted as the future and he likes Porsche anyway so it seems like it would have been a natural progression for him to follow.

Agree, but only so if you can do most of your charging at home.

Nope, that was a diesel for sure the body work was more than likely fibreglass which would account for the way the fire took hold so quickly and gave all of that rich black smoke and the explosions were possibly the tyres blowing up. As the comments said, it will be interesting to see what Geoff buys cars makes of it, hopefully he will also agree that it was not an EV. Say what you like about Geoff, he is normally pretty fair and if he makes a mistake, the next video he puts out will normally correct his mistake, unlike the MSM. A bit disturbing though that they make ambulances in such a fashion that such a fire could spread so quickly.

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I can understand the logic in disabling the Kessy system as that is always going to be active and drawing power but the ambient lighting, no way, that is only ever powered when the car is unlocked and the drivers door opened should it be able to come on.

the truth about electric cars
The Dacia Spring is on its way here as an electric car that has been designed to be electric from the start and with its target price of £15,000 should entice some people to look at switching to electric. Me, nah, its way too small for my needs.

the truth about electric cars
The radio for instance on my Superb can be controlled via the screen for things like station changing etc and can be a real PITA as it is so easy to send the whole string of station names scrolling across the screen rather than just changing a station. Thankfully though the mayor radio control, the volume is still controlled via either a rotary knob or roller on the steering wheel and indeed so can station selection be controlled via the steering wheel, albeit after navigating through a multi layered menu on the small screen between the rev counter and speedo.

Then that kind of folly is going hamper the adoption of EV's if the driver cannot safely control the basic functions without having to look at what they are doing. I can see why carmakers want to integrate everything through the screen, its quicker to install, uses less cables and thus is cheaper for them but a real ball ache for the owner if anything fails as the screens are bleeding expensive.

the truth about electric cars
Yeah, I can see where you're coming from under those conditions, but... with a decent diesel you shouldn't get any NVH so that makes the 2 cars comparable and if you start with a full tank, then you can effectively double or more the range I have before driven from Chelmsford to Ulverston (310 miles) without any breaks before in 4hrs 20 mins. and had enough fuel in the tank for the return journey without any need for refuelling. That said of course, the sane thing to do would be to take a break on each leg so with the right EV, the trips would be similar time wise, providing of course that you can find a free working charger on your route without having to deviate to find one. Those sort of EV's generally are far more expensive than their ICE counterparts, but it is doable if you have the right car and charging infrastructure, the latter will of course improve over time.

Vehicle charging all over the place
When I picked up my new to me car, in June last year, the battery in it was all wet on top and rather tired looking, so I replaced it with the one I took from my scrapped car which was brand new in November 2022 (replaced then under a 3-year warranty), and the voltmeter in my car used to show between 12.5 to 14v while driving. The last 3 weeks, the car alarm has been going off about 3 to 4 times a day at random times of the day and night. One of the trigger points for car alarms is, believe it or not, low battery voltage, but the car never failed to start or showed any other symptoms until this Monday when I went to go to a family meal out to celebrate my son's 41st birthday and also my Mother in Laws 93rd birthday and I was not even able to unlock the car, the battery had died overnight. I tested it and it showed just 4v, so my son had to come and pick us up and after the meal took me to purchase a new battery. Battery fitted, no more random car alarms and the voltmeter is doing exactly as @Breezy_Pete said so I think you have just thrown away a perfectly good alternator.

If it is wrong and against the law to hold or use a mobile phone while driving, then so it should the same with touch screens built in to the car as the means of interacting and controlling car functions that might need to be operated while driving..

the truth about electric cars
Haha, have you got 2 pens in your top pocket, as he said EV evangelists do, or was that just Tesla owners 🤣? There were loads of good points raised in the video and, no, I'm not going to raise them and start off a mini WW3 about should have done better planning etc. Like most of his videos he does rather labour points too much and repeating himself, I do enjoy some his videos if I'm in the mood, they can be quite entertaining. One point he did make was that using the Zap map chargers in Skegness are very thin on the ground, if they have been keeping their information upto to date that is as this link does certainly prove. Electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Skegness - Zapmap (zap-map.com) Anyone calling him and other liars would do well to remember that when they are pointing fingers at anyone, they have 3 fingers point back at themselves, just saying . They really need to be there with them at the same time and armed with the same information as they have at the time to justify their claims.
