Sorry if you think I'm trying to teach you, I'm not, merely posting something that may or may not be of interest to other members, it is up to the reader to evaluate if it interests them or not, same as it is when you and others post anything. If it is guff or not, again that is personal opinion. As to the class lawsuits, that has long been my opinion, and one that I posted about and drawn comparisons between it and diesel gate, so nothing new there. Do I hate EV cars?, hell no, I love all kinds of cars, but I have said that we should be able to freely choose the type of car that suits our own individual needs, seems perfectly logical to me. As to charging to 80% or 100% is akin to filling up a fuel tank to 80% or 100%, it will clearly make an impact on the range you can cover before refuelling is required. But the difference to my mind is that filling a tank to 80% or 100% has zero affect on the degradation or the lifespan of the tank, or the car overall, what it will mean is that if you are only doing short trips and you fill the tank, you are carrying a lot of excess weight which is not the case with a battery.

Meanwhile, there are others here who claim that it is wrong to charge above 80% on a regular basis and will shorten the lifespan of the battery and lead to faster degradation of its capacity, so who is correct and who is sprouting guff. Audi have had an V8 A8 driven by JC on Top Gear from London to Edinburgh and back again on 1 tank full of diesel which actually bettered their own WLTP figures and Audi even predicted that it was impossible to do that 800 mile trip on a single tank, but it did, proving that you really can if driven very carefully achieve the claimed figures. Has anyone ever managed to similar with an EV?

I had thought that there would class lawsuits being brought against makers of EV cars because of the claimed ranges not being achievable between charges, especially when you are supposed not to charge above 80% of its capacity to prolong the battery life. It now looks like that is highly likely to happen after a motorist took his claim to the ombudsman and won.   5. I also don't think that the engine braking on a petrol is as good as it is on a diesel, thanks to the lower compression ratios.

With my diesel, if I put the mode into ECO and I'm doing more than 20mph, if I lift off the throttle the car goes into ECO mode and coasts and it can cover pretty good distance when coasting before I feel the need to give it a spurt of power again, providing the road is level or downhill. A quick dab on the brake pedal will restore some engine braking, another spurt on the juice and lift off and the car is once again coasting. If I go into the mode settings and select normal, the car no longer coasts and engine braking is also noticeably greater. There is a manual mode where I can select a lower gear when engine braking and the effect is even more pronounced, so it is possible with a little practise to use the brakes only for the final few yards before stopping.
  7. Yes, Killwinning Fire was at a Battery Recycling Center, not a 'Breakers Yard', I noticed that too. However I expect the point he was trying to make was that the result could be similar to a car park that had a load of EV cars in it, which will be the case in the fullness of time as more and more ICE are sent to the scrapyard and replaced with EV's be they new or 2nd hand ones. The irony is to me at least that the government's own standing in the banning of any EV's in their own Westminster car parks and the Fire Dept in Liverpool, is flying full in the face of their big push towards the electrification of traffic and complete ban on the sales of new ICE in 2035. It sort of will be making drivers of EV's 2nd class citizens by preventing them using current underground or multi story car parks.
  8. The latest in Car Parks and EV vehicles. Despite what some say about electric vehicles in comparison to diesel and or petrol, the nations fire services and also government are extremely concerned and this the result. I expect that we will see this spreading.
  9. Here is the UK air index shown on the map as of 16:36 on 3rd May 2024. The only spot that does not have good air is a spot on the west coast of Ireland.
  10. This was seen today, parked in a charging bay at Sainsburys in Chipping Ongar, not even plugged and has been there a while and has a few tickets stuck on it.

Oh dear, it seems that London and certainly the boroughs of Hillingdon, Hounslow and Ealing at least are struggling in being able to supply sufficient power to allow people buying EV's to have a home charger installed.   13. Maybe so, but that does not mean the news of a longer range Mini was known before the broadcast, though. There has to be a point in time when a statement that was made in good faith becomes out of date following a press release from BMW.

These programs are often recorded in advance, or at the very best researched in advance, and so it might just have been that the new improved range Mini was announced after the program was put to bed? Could it be that the Money Expert also came across a salesman like you did who was playing the yes, no game? These are the same thing and he was of course, making the point that you would be not able to purchase a "new" ICE car after 2035, which to a lot of people is a dealbreaker, they will only ever buy "new" as a status symbol is to be seen with the very latest registration plate. You could well be right on this point, that being said, he is not the only person to have made the same claim about funds being held for a while before being released back again, so may be there is some element of truth there, at least in England if not in Scotland? I can't see the relevance of the point here, he is not making the case as a business user, but as a private buyer, and those folk are not able to offset the cost against expenses, or claim back the 20% VAT so is not worth the mention Again, while you have a point, albeit a small one really because what else are you going to do while you're waiting for a charge to complete. Some people will just resort to drinks and snacks out of boredom, something that would be happening if you're driving an ICE vehicle, even if you have had to make a quick fill up, you're unlikely to stop for anything to eat or drink. I admit here, to not having watched this video of his yet, I have been spending time doing other things this week or so, more on that later....
  16. Very nice, the fact that it seems L&K models seem to take so long being delivered is also very reassuring so you know it has not been preregistered by the dealer and left in a field for months waiting for buyer. I waited almost 5 months for mine.
  17. Well in some cases they are heavier than some ICE cars, but there are far heavier ones out there as well as vans, trucks and buses.

  19. @wyx087 Geez there sure are a load of numpties about if they fell for such an obvious piece of BS as https://www.lse.ac.uk/granthaminstitute/news/daily-mail-admits-making-up-story-about-electric-vehicles-causing-potholes/ is the real cause of potholes. There are increasing numbers of private cars on the roads these days that weigh more than EV's do, and simply oodles of larger, far heavier vehicles as well. These are kind of people that politicians love as they can themselves get away with almost anything and tell those folk what they like because they know that they will simply believe them as it less work to believe everything that the authorities tell them, then it is to work things out and do research for themselves.
  20. Correct, I was not implying anything than that. To my mind, a small car equates to low power as it does not have to lug around a large heavy body and I also said a full charge was enough to cross the island 4 times without needing to charge. Meaning that a person can live on one coast, and work on the other coast and the car has enough power to do 2 days commuting without charging and that with home charging the economics really make a compelling argument. Well the next video YouTube next offered me this as a recommendation to watch, and I don't normally watch tool videos
  21. @Ootohere The other day, we were discussing why I was saying that Orkney was an ideal place for EV adoption and a small low power car was the ideal car for the local conditions etc, well it seems I was not too not far away from the truth after all. And this may help to explain perhaps why the McMaster seems to have the uncanny knack of finding all the duff chargers on his trips / challenges? WTF is going on here, this video was just suggested to me, again, the same dealer, same location (Orkney) and no, I have not subscribed to his channel, nor have I done a YT search for anything thing to with Orkney or the Nissan NV200...
