  1. Hmm, or is it a case of killing 2 birds with the same stone? I mean, if the software bug is only on ICE models, then by squirrelling them off to an airfield away from most peoples eyes, they are then able to help hide the software issue and when people request a ICE car, they can try and plead that they just cannot get them and instead sell an EV that helps them get over the 22%. Then these cars will be made available again as ex demonstrators next year when hopefully the new software has been released?
  2. The point is, as I see it, it remains odd that the cars sitting over at North Weald only seem to be ICE versions and surely if the software problems is why they are sitting there waiting for the updated software, surely the same issues would be effecting to PHEVs and EVs? If so then why are there none of this on the airfield?
  3. Has anyone else complained about this software issue?
  4. Mguy from Sydney has just covered this particular fire, fair enough, but his third item, the ebike fire is actually over a year old, which I watched at the time WTF? Fast-forward to 9:10 to see his clip is the same.
  5. What software update is this?
  6. @Ootoherethere are all kinds of ICE models, no EVs.
  7. I'm currently over at North Weald airfield and most of those preregistered 24 plate Skodas have gone and have been replaced with even more 74 plates sitting around.
  8. Doesn't that tell you that they don't want to risk the money belonging to those who could actually afford the risk for some reason?
  9. Well true, you made me question it a bit more and there does seem to be some unanswered questions, firstly I thought the Luton fire was a Range Rover? This car was in fact a Rover Discovery and by playing back the video at a quarter of the speed, this become apparent when the tailgate closed it self and then also the registration plate could be seen and that registration seems to be hooky as it clearly can be seen as RR 58 LEE, which according to DVLA relates to a grey Audi registered in March 2016? I double checked the number thinking the 5 could be a 6 but that registration number does not exist, so was this stolen car running on cloned number plates? Does anyone actually know when the model shown was released?
  10. Although this fire is not an EV, (it is claimed to the same make and model as the one in Luton Airport fire), it does indeed show just quickly ICE fires can be dealt with especially when not hampered by lack of access, just a single hose was required even though there were other cars also engulfed in flames. This is a clear indication that car park designers really do need to consider the ease of access to fire fighters to get to the scene and also shows that decent fire suppression systems such as sprinklers would certainly help.
  11. That was just one, there was also another EV in the UK in similar incident on the same day apart from the owner claiming that the car had not been used for a couple of days?
  12. No, there is no hidden message, just posted so that people can decide for themselves about the risks associated with EV cars and Tesla's in particular as both of these cars were reported as driving at speed, so were they just speeding, or were the cars in autopilot mode and become rogue, did the electronic door handles also play a part in the deaths as has been mentioned before, particularly with Tesla's that there is no mechanical internal door release mechanism, nor is there is there so it seems, any direct linkage from the external door handles, meaning that in the event of the handles not working, smashing windows is the only option and with those windows being laminated, is harder to do than you might think I have since updated that post with a 2 further video reports.
  13. Here are a couple of incidents within days of each other, 4 people have died in each of these Tesla cars that burst into flames, in both cases the cars were been involved in accidents. Why is it that only EV fires make the news and ICE fires seldom make the news??
  14. Yes, the VW early beetles and the Hillman Imp were located at the front under the hood/boot lid as they both rear engined cars. All the Zephyr and Zodiacs were in the rear MK1s were next to rear number plate on the O/S and mk2, 3 and 4 were behind a flap behind the rear number plate. Humber Hawks and Supersnipes along with the Imperial where behind the O/S rear reflector, which unscrewed to refill the filler tube.
  15. True, but that is yet another possible reason for many people not to even consider having a EV.
  16. But not in the front grill
  17. When you have some folk who will buy a car on little more than it's colour, it does need to be simplified to cater for least techy of people to understand.
  18. The real problem with electric cars and the charging confusion is the one that nobody is actually addressing, and that is that there is NO set standards for the location of the charge port, or its type of port as this RAC guide shows, even from the early days the method of refuelling an ICE car has not really changed, its a case of pull into a filling station, opening the fuel tank flap. removing the cap and inserting the nozzle and squeezing the trigger and the process is the same regardless of what type of fuel or its grade. Refuelling an electric is nothing like that, there are many types of plugs, types of charger, speeds, AC, or DC etc and not not all charging locations are equal, some will cater for certain types and not others. So is it really any wonder that so many people struggle with getting charged, as this RAC site explains. Electric car charger types and connectors – a visual guide | RAC Drive
  19. OT but I do happen to have both Linux and Window boxes under my desk, both sharing a single monitor, keyboard and mouse, along with a couple of Windows laptops.
  20. Interesting video and a bit of an eye opener for many I think, especially the sheer number of times that they were not able to get the chargers to actually work for what ever reason, were they faulty, was it a probelm with the electroverse card they were using etc, it certainly showed up the problems with chargers and maybe the need for having as many options of cards / accounts as possible in order to give you the best chance of getting a charge, something that does not happen with ICE as the pump is clearly working or not. The other thing I noticed and is something that many have told me is something that does not happen, and yet there are many YT videos that claim the polar opposite, is they they do have to do at times queue to get onto a charger. Yes I also accept that you do at times have to queue at some filling stations with an ICE, but those queues are very quick to disperse, not so with EVs.
  21. Or of course they might have had a car before, an ICE and have been lulled into a false sense of security by their simplicity, simply pull up at a pump and select petrol or diesel, compared with different chargers and speeds?
  22. I think you will discover that many of us ICE drivers are already well aware of that and that is why we say that they are ideal as city cars if you don't need the extra space that many ICE cars provide at a far lower unit cost. EDIT. By unit cost, I mean the cost of the car as compared to the fuel costs.
