  1. I know that they sent out quite a few samples over on DW.

A quick google and I found this over on a 350z forum. Next to my favourite wax AW Desireable.

cheers for that Neil. Read that tired last night and couldnt actually figure out whether he came to a conclusion on whether he liked it or not, other than it needing a rub down with qd afterwards to remove the smudges.

  2. Anyone used the pentawax from 50cal as yet?

i sent an email asking if it plays nice with a glaze or sealant base, and what type of qd topup works well (carnauba or synth) and received the slightly disappointing if predictable reply that It works well with the 50cal glaze and 50cal qd. At £35 less 15% from high def detail it sounds worth a pop, adding in another £20 for the glaze and qd im not so sure.

  3. I have already done two Reviews

tfr vs wash & jet is the comparison being discussed by Ben & Thisday and was what I was interested in Chris, and you havent (or hadn't) had the wash & jet yet according to your comment on the twelfth. If you happen to receive the wash & jet for a side by side test against before Ben & Thisday all well and good, otherwise I am interested in what the other gents have to say.

  4. Thanks NM.  What is the group buy and would I need to wait for a full group?

Several pads and polish are going to rack up to £50 quite quickly though, which is verging on similar kit prices?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I'm getting the right stuff.  Also, do I have to have the pro model? What does it have over the DAS6 at £80?

the group buy is now more like a long running special. Essentially its a discount code for the one product, so no you do not need to wait for a group.

  5. Well here you go, a PH neutral alternative to the TFR

    Available in the following sizes:

    1 Litre (Ready to use)

    2.5 Litre (Concentrate)

    5 Litre (Concentrate)

    25 Litre (Concentrate)

Dilution ratio of the above video was 10:1

    http://www.powermaxed.com/clean-your-car/car-jet-wash-wax

Get 30% off with code: DW30 (valid until 28th Feb)

At first glance these look to me to occupy a similar prewash role, so would you expect a detailer to hold both products, and under what circumstance would you pickup one over the other?

  6. Personally, Ive never asked or ever thought about it

I would think it would be indefinate, but dont take my word for it

    Why do you ask?

I saw a post elsewhere suggesting valet pro citrus had quite a short shelf life once diluted. I'll try and find it over the weekend. Have to say it surprised me at the time, and I still don't know how true it. Hence the question here albeit on a different product.

  7. I picked up a bottle of one of the Autobrite ones in the sale, Purple Velvet I think (as favoured by the famous Clive no less).

Feels quite nice, and didnt notice a real difference compared to gold class (in my limited experience) and has a good dilution ratio. Looks a little expensive though outside of the sale.

Plenty of suggestions to be going at, probably comes down to stumbling across a decent offer on the above stuff or ambling down to halfords for a 3for2 for ease.

  8. Gloves?...LOL

Do you think a company would sell a potentially dangerous product to the public?

They sell bleach to the public.

I do believe that a product aimed at the professional/enthusiast market, sold undiluted at professional strengths may require a little care to avoid harm. I dont believe that a car cleaning product at proper dilutions would be intrinsically dangerous, especially given the limited skin contact with a spray on and powerwash procedure. More change of tripping over the wash hose.

Do you think I would recommend it to anyone if It was unsafe?.....Im more than happy to use it on my cars and clents' as recommended by Powermaxx

If I was in any doubt about it, I wouldnt use it!

Of course I do not believe you, or anyone else on here would knowingly recommend a harmful product, and as above I don't doubt its safety (or effectiveness). I was simply surprised by how alkaline it is, hopefully Ben's tests will give more info.

    Gloves?...LOL

The gloves suggestion was (mainly) in jest since we are discussing pre-wash and product on skin contact should be minimal. But there are certain tasks I would have no qualms about wearing gloves for, even though I apparently may lose a few man points along the way.

  9. I've got it once from iShine Car Care in their sale - 25% off at the time;

last time was i4detailing Xmas code with free wash mitt and free delivery.

Just need to keep your eye out for the deals Simon....

Cheers Ste    , I was just wondering whether you had one particularly good source or recurring deal for these.  I can't spend my life scouring the net for detailing deals, so I'll let the detailing junkies keep an eye out for the deals and hope they post the good ones here :)

PS, other than crimbo are there other common sale periods, think I saw talk of an easter one somewhere?

that said, I hope to spend considerably less this year....

  10. Been having a read around regarding pH. Seems Auto Finesse Citrus Power is pH 13 also.

I work in a school and one of our science teachers is a Doctor of Chemistry. I shall be dropping off some Power Maxed TFR in the next couple of days that has been diluted to different ratios so she can have a look and do some science stuff with it.

    I shall report back...

Isnt ph13 where you start to see bleach and 14ish where you get caustic soda? dilution will bring it down of course but its higher than i would have expected as a relative laymen.

look forward to your results anyway Ben (and I might just be investing in a box of gloves)

  11. A jolly good question sir, and one that would require a depth gauge, which I dont currently have. I do need to get one though as I have some other tyres I need to measure. Give me a couple of days and I'll sort a reading.

The not particularly helpful answer would be that Colin's pictures were still accurate when I put these on and I've done 2-3k so there is a good amount of tread left.

  12. hopefully Colin & Damo wont mind me dredging up this thread. I dont think I will be able to store these tyres over the summer (without a row) so this is a feeler for selling what appear to be become a briskoda family heirloom.

Currently on the car, but will to take them off before the end of winter to secure a sale.

I've done maybe 3000 miles max on these tyres from the pictures above.

only proviso is there is a slight knick on the outside of one of the tyres, but this has been confirmed as safe by a garage and passed an MOT this week, happy to show the cert to anyone who comes to see the tyres.

£200 seems cheap considering the price new but as Damo did me a good turn I'll pass that down to another. Price is collection only from mid cheshire, 10 mins from J18 M6.

  13. Was about to recommend the very same, I use one of these as a wash bucket and a black megs one for rinse so I can always tell them apart.

But have to say the carchem ones do look rather posh.

Regarding the shampoo I think Ben is a fan of one of the car-chem shampoos, I'm sure he'll be along soon enough.

oh and the is a 12% off over £20 on detailing world, havent posted a link as not sure whether against the rules.

  15. Fiesta ST?

The new one would be perfect but too pricey. Maybe to an older one, just maybe a tiny bit slow compared to a remapped vrs

    Another VRS?

    Sent from my Galaxy S5

not the most original idea but wouldnt rule it out. cant imagine the suspension will be that much better than current in terms of wear on anything in my price range.

    Clio 197

only the Renault part of that puts me off. What's the build quality/reliability like

As the better economy isn't a deal breaker what about something along the lines of a Honda S2000 or Nissan 350z?

Not ruling them out but head might have to rule heart as I have some none motoring stuff to pay for in the next year or so.

Economy might be an issue on those two , 350z will average 26-28mpg in my experience and not wholly reliable either

one of the girls does even worse with doing short journeys

  16. Hi everybody

Thinking of changing my 2008 pre fl vrs as I've had it for two years, and it needs some a little work to bring it back to tip-top so thought I'd have a cheeky look at replacements.

Budget of no more than 5-8k ideally.  Have mine to trade in but have included that in the 5-8k (80k miles, race blue, fsh).  Really open minded.  Last car was a C2 vts so size unimportant.

    Wish list would:

be quick enough ideally not much slower than mine,

    not crushingly uncomfortable,

not bad looking (but I realize eye, beholder etc)

better economy would be nice but not a deal breaker.

    Reliability would be nice too.

suggest away (please) lads & lasses.

  17. Just been taking part in a 'debate' on fb regarding this. Mainz has been dropped as a sponsor on a couple of events later in year. Along with a couple more screenshots like the one above. Someone also went on the website to check companies (companies house website probably) and turns out the business isnt doing to well at moment. I dont how assets/income/bank balance etc is all worked out to value a company. But it said its net worth was -14,000. Again that might be normal but I dont think so. (But alas im no accountant)

Edit: I'm also of the opinion that this is disgusting, if it is all true. Dont see how something like this can come out if it hasnt happened (especially seeing as the company seems to be winding down... better spend that voucher I have. Dont reckon I'll get a refund. )

I'd be a little careful about posting figures verbatim around the net without really understanding them. The business report on this site http://ukdata.com/company/08425277/MAINZ-CAR-CARE-LIMITED?name=MAINZ+CAR+CARE+LIMITED&postcode=S44+6BJ&details-button=View+Details lists the company as private limited and with a filing date of 31 march 14. So accounting data contained on companies house would be nearly a year old, and in any case would have been very limited by small business reporting exemptions. There may have been losses, which isnt unusual when setting up a business, and can be ok as long as the shareholders capital covers those losses. But that's enough accounting speak from me.

Edit: Hope that doesnt sound too preachy, apologies if it does :)

What a shame, I really liked mainze products but I won't be buying anymore. What a great charity and what a shame for mainze!

I hope it doesn't sound too crass for saying so, but if (and this is a big if) the business is in involuntary liquidation then there may be some sore of liquidation sale with proceeds going to creditors rather than the shareholders. Bargain or two possibly to be had by consumers, or someone in the industry.
