  1. Having just come from a Fabia vRS estate into a 1.2tsi engined Rapid, I am having more fun with the 6 speed box.

Can't compare the Rapid directly to the Fabia as its a segment above and handles/rides better.

Engine wise, I miss the power on silly over takes and straight roads/roundabout exits etc but not missing the fuel and oil consumption :)

May well get a remap but for now I am content.

Massive fan of the rapid! Would like to see it in an estate/vrs version!

  2. It depends what you want from the car and how much warranty you have left.

While I am not a fan of the Monte Tech's inability to have extra options added it's a decent car for the price and also having a gearstick means it can be fun to peddal along.

Speed does not always equal fun.

A slower can can be a laugh to drive, the Fabia mk2 VRS is not a "fun" car IMO. Too heavy and power delivery is too linear, They didn't add 25kg of ballast to the back of the hatchback because it's well balanced.

I wonder how much slower a remapped Monte would be over a vRS. A bit, but it could be more fun to hussle along.

Consider the Monte is around 100kg lighter, which does give it some advantages.

My warranty runs out in December, been told by the dealer I am able to extend it another two years if I want to.

For me, the whole reason of going for a monte is the perceived reliability that the 1.6 tdi has, and I like the looks of the car. Granted, I know that there still could be problems with it, like any other car.

I really do enjoy my vRS and the past week or so since the new engine it has ran better than ever.

It's like giving someone a second chance after they have done the dirty on you, risky business...

  3. Ordered myself a Monte Carlo tech today after numerous trips to the dealers with my vRS due to the ever prominent oil consumption issue. It's now had a new engine and I told myself I needed to get rid.

However, after placing the order and really thinking about things I just really aren't sure what to do for the best! I'm torn between the fun of the vRS and the perceived reliability that the monte provides! The dealer has offered to remap the new monte FOC with revo software, which helped seal the deal although revo wasn't my first choice , they would honour any warranty work needed.

Just wondered if I could have all your opinions please to help me make my decision.

Also, I put a £500 deposit down, if I was to call back in the next couple of days and cancel, would they refund this to me?!

    Thanks,

    Ben.

  4. I for one will have to admit that I've been majorly put off tuning my car after all the problems I've had.

I've added the ITG intake and will be shortly be adding the forge intercooler, but I feel (could be wrong) that these parts will help the engine rather than cause problems.

  5. Apparently the water temp gauge is going to be dropped soon and skoda will replace it with an "oil-consumption-ometer" just for the vRS. Will display how many litres/mile the engine is eating..... ;-)

Funny you should say that, I've just had a tip off that shell garages are gonna have an extra pump installed at their stations with castrol edge 5w-30 in for vRS drivers to use when they fill up!

  6. Just wondering if anyone else seems to have the same issue, or can help me out here....

On maxidot, it seems to take quite a whole for the oil temp to register on my car. On the gauge under the rev counter, it will register in the middle as 90 degrees after a short while of driving depending on the outside air temperature, however the maxidot seems to take a while to catch up in a sense, and register the temp.

Just interested to see if anyone has also found this/know why.

    Ben.

  7. Hey Ben

Car is driven mostly in d and long drives as I am based on the road and have driven in all modes but normally quite easy

    Hmm it's interesting.

There is a lot of dispute in to how to use this engine in terms of preventing problems.

I myself have recently had a new engine fitted due to the oil issue (using 1 litre every 300 miles) and was told 'don't baby the engine, use the performance and rev range' which has correlation on here with people who have done the same and had no issues.

Again, there is no conclusive evidence.

Hope you get it sorted mate.

    Ben.

  8. Thanks for all the replies, I shall be going back tomorrow morning.

George, I didn't get a new CAT fitted, should I have done?

I am told its a new engine, however they used the same spark plugs from my previous engine.

In the service book I have a stamp of the dealer detailing the work carried out and the mileage etc.

All the tyres are correct. I shall check the oil tonight/early hours when I finish work.

    Ben.

  9. So got my car back today after two days of the garage having it to fit a new engine due to oil consumption issues. Now my car seems to be pulling to the left which I assume is the tracking?!

Anyone know how the hell they have managed to do this whilst changing the engine??

I'm also guessing I won't be able to get them to correct it as they will say that I've done it since, typical...

  10. The Clio might interest me,it's improved from the old Clio in that it's got a turbo ,so more torque, four doors and the dual clutch gearbox and better handling than the Fabia.

Against is the possible worst build quality and the assumption that it will have less interior and boot space than the Fabia.

Tbh I think I will look next to the class above and the current Focus St looks good for my needs. It's more money but Fords are always heavily discounted and £17/18k should buy one new enough...not auto ,so I'd have to think hard about that one.

I'd disagree in regards to build quality. Granted they are two different things but I think they go hand in hand really.

    See this link and model reliability at the bottom of the page;

Clio is in the top 30, not a skoda, or a fabia in sight...
