200sx gt28r turbo

Featured Replies

does anyone know if a 200sx uses standard garret fitments?

you can get a bargain of a turbo from the right seller but its sold as for a 200sx, what i want to know is it a standard garrett unit? if so i could buy one and a T25 fitment manifold and be done with it.

i thought nissan used hitachi turbochargers??

from my googling they use a standard T25 flange and the only difference is that the turbo outlet on the boost side has a flange but that could easily be sorted out by getting a turbo outlet from a car :D

gt28r turbo's for a 200sx can be had for £300 delivered brand new

add to that a manifold for £200+delivery and a 200sx exhasut flange for £70 and other than a bit of cutting/welding to make the downpipe's fit thats a £600 gt28r as far as i cna see :)

the other thing to take into consideration is the orientation of the turbo the exhaust turbine will be designed so that the oil flows from the top to the bottom so it will need to be mounted the same way up in whichever application you use it in.. if this isn't possible you can normally release a few of the clamping bolts and rotate the housing round in relation to the compessor turbine so that it is at the right angle....

one other thing is to ensure that you have the correct wastegate actuator spring, they come in various different pressures but iirc you cant just change the spring, you have to change the whole capsule

I'd be wary.....it won't be a genuine Garret if it's £300!!!

Ditch the GT28 as it's way to harsh on power delivery, go for one of the faster spooling IHI units like a VF22 or VF34!

Much more linear power delivery and puts less stress on the transmission! Garrett turbos bring the boost on very quick and I know lots of peeps who've fooked gearbox's etc 'cos of the harsh power delivery!

ah but i've now got a 6 speed box :D

and i don't mind harsh power delivery as i won't spinning any wheels :D

Something to point out, not sure if its workable. The 200SX has the turbo mounted on the left and side of the engine (looking from driver POV) Inlet is at the front with the exhaust on the rear. If you were to rotate a 1.8T to the same position as per Superb for example the turbo is n the other side of the engine. This would mean the intake and outlets of the turbo would all be ar5e about face.

You wont spin the wheels  - except for all 4 of them :P

thats a 200sx engine bay. looks perfectly fine to me, just the compressor housing may need rotating a tad :)
