water in diesel

Featured Replies

Ive just got in from work having taken my truck to the garage to have the diesel filter drained. I drive a 24 tonne daf at work, and ive had a "drain fuel filter" warning flashing up for the last week. The filter has been drained 5 times now in the last week and i could not believe how much water was present each time . Iwould say that out of 1 litre of fuel ,there was a third of a litre of water!!! We have had this problem with all our lorries that fill up at one certain garage, so we contacted them and to their credit ,they closed the lorry pumps to investigate. It has not affected the trucks that use the northbound carriageway to fill up ,so it sounds as tho they do have a problem with their diesel tank. When youre paying 126 p per litre for diesel ,you expect to get diesel, not 50 /50 water and diesel!!!. Tomake things worse, i filled my car up there tuesday night,so am now thinking ive probably got a tank full of crap:(.It really does make you wonder what we put in our tanks doesnt it?:thumbdwn:

That is scary. Its nearly as bad as watered down beer.

It's worse as watered down beer can't cause damage to you... well the beer part can but the water won't.

That's appalling, and presumably fraudulent. Maybe it's down to the suppliers pulling a fast one, but surely the filling station are guilty of the equivalent of handling stolen goods?

As Ap0gee says, I'm pretty sure Trading Standards would take an interest if asked.

My boss has spoken to the garage in question and they have admitted that they have a problem with one of their tanks (the diesel one) and after investigation have told us to send them any repair bills or service costs to them and they will sort it ,(a bit stable -horse -bolted )if youask me.I just wonder how many other people are driving around with tanks half full of water.I drained my fuel filter and lucky for them there was no water in it as it wouldnt be very good tonking along the motorway and getting an engine full of water:thumbdwn:
