New mileage PB!

Featured Replies

Filled up today with 30 miles left (according to the lying b'stard comp) and 566 miles on the clock! (At one point my projected miles left would have seen 650, but the bottom of the tank is obviously smaller than the top :)) Not bad considering that it's all been my 30 mile a day commute - I've been driving like a granny, pottering at 64 up the dual carriageway, short shifting, keeping revs under 2k, the works. The computer reckoned 57.5 average at 25mph :D

Unfortunately I managed to squeeze 52 litres in so apparently my actual mpg is still only 49ish, but I know that's been skewed.

The whole experience has left me with a massive chip on my shoulder, I have a hit list of cars which 'think' they are 'quick' and have cut me up in the last two weeks. And the drive home tonight was a good opportunity to clean out the engine using the italian method (not to mention the luxury of air-con!). But as those 52 litres cost me SIXTY-TWO QUID I think I may be back to granny driving again shortly :(

Still, it was good to prove that a remap needn't murder your mpg.

That's pretty damn good, the best I've ever had is 485 miles from a tank, and I use mine as a company car! I'm sure I'll hit the magic 500 one of these days, it's just so hard not to ramp with the grunt of my little beast!

One of the things I miss aboutmy old 306. It had a 50 litre fuel tank and 500 miles to the tank was a frequent event...

Just done near 800 in the Passat, 70 litre plus reserve tank but £86 to fill her up hurts.

How the hell did you fit 52 litres in, have you done that tank mod or something?

I filled up with the trip comp showing 10 miles left(having done 480 odd, and so far i have only ever fitted just over 40 litres in before it's full. Hmm.

Impressive result mate, 566 miles is an amazing range for a tank

I bet it was the most boring, dullest and frustrating 566 miles you've ever driven though

Matt

I hit 600 regularly but then my commute is 50 miles each way almost all on the motorway so its boring as hell anyway!

mine is only the standard PD100 so that will help. using the air con shouldnt make a difference though as I thought the pump was always running on these? may be wrong on that but I dont get any difference between it being on or off so it seems to fit

AlexR - you dont have to do the mod just use the pump to push in the button on the filler channel and you get another 10L+ in (just watch you dont cover yourself in diesel :))

I do a 100 mile round trip daily and average between 450-500 a tank, depends how bored i get !!

Just filled up...

Last tank was £52 of BP standard unleaded with a shot of Millers 4 stuff.

Managed 470 miles with a good mix of driving, but a couple of big motorway runs (empty road and 75 miles an hour ish). Not too bad! :D

I was quite impressed the other day. 300 mile drive, 5 hours driving time - the computer showed a mean average of 48.5 mpg - in a 1.4 16 valve.

Managed just over 60mpg last wk i do 80miles per day, worked it out manually & amazingly the trip was right with my figures. 1.9tdi fabia est

I find early summer days on the motorway are my best MPG times... Unless the road stops and becomes a car park. I've twice approached 500 miles/tank. Last one I managed to fit 42 litres in afterwards.

I can't quite manage to keep the boot off the right pedal every now and then though.

It's only human to way to whizz along... Even if it lacks the whhhhaaaaarrrrrpppp, UMMMMMMM of my Impreza.

J.

On my jolly to Suffolk. I got 520miles on 3/4 tank going and 536miles on 3/4 tank on the return.

When I filled mine the other day we had 485 miles in the tank to use, but that has shot down due to the town driving the car has been subjected to.

Davy

Davy, Have you tried working out your proper comsumtion?

Mainly at the moment the car is getting 35-37mpg in a average week doing say 10 miles a day so roughly in two weeks the car will do about 350 miles before it needs filled up.

The highest I've ever reached was 6.2l/100kms or ~45mpg all highway (in mountains) for 630kms. 1.4 16v.

My PBs for a tank are 573miles for my VRS and 650miles for my previous PD100, both without filling up the vent tank.

I managed 620 miles with a brimmed tank (including vent tank) last summer. It was because of my daily commute behind tractors and lorrys doing 40-50mph on the A10...... oh so boring and nowhere to overtake during rush hour...... sigh.

My best now is about 400 miles to £60 :o

My best now is about 400 miles to £60 :o

Ouch!

My personal best is 524 miles off 46ltrs but that was the most frustratingly boring tankful of my life :D
