Octavia II rear lights

Featured Replies

I noticed yesterday that the side light element (5w) of both the stop and rear fog lights is not working on its own when the side lights are turned on. Instead the (21w) element is glowing and gets brighter when either the stop or rear fog is turned on. Could this be a bad connection somewhere? The LH fog does not work at all but the RH does. Both sides show the same problem.

Does a bulb warning light come on on the dash ??

As I understand from the handbook, if the tail lamp fails, it uses the brake light albeit at a lower voltage to keep the rear of your car safe!

Obviously when you brake it ups the voltage, to show braking.

oh & there's only a rear fog on the driver's side

Yep, its the car being clever and substituting for a blown bulb. :)

That's right. There's one on the other side too but it needs to be programmed to operate. 1 offside foglight is sufficient to comply with UK legislation.

With regard to faulty lamps, as already pointed out in the previous posts, a failed sidelight is automatically compensated for by using a brake lamp with reduced output. My understanding is that once the backup lamp 'so to speak' fails, the dashboard lamp fail warning light comes on.

Thanks guys but unfortunately I have checked the bulbs and they are all intact. Also no dash warning lamp. Is it possible to get a wiring diagram so I can follow it through. Johnny C how can I programme the second fog light to work?

See if connector is fully pluged in. Once I've had the same problem on Avensis just after picking it up new from the dealer. Arrived home and found that plug was not fully inserted. It was pluged but not all the way in. Just pushed it till it clicked and everything started working fine. Worth to check.

the other fog can be enabled with vag com/
