Jabbasport 1.8t Induction Kit

Featured Replies

I had the BMC/CDA-box but sold it before I tried it. Got an offer I couldn't refuse(200% profit =) and bought lowering kit instead, so I don't really know how it would work on the RS. Anyway, I found an interesting article about filters. Check out the filter from APEXi. I'm thinking of getting one but not sure...

Had a conversation with my favourite tuning company (AmD). And was advised to leave the standard filter in place, they have tuned cars to over 450 bhp and have not found the need to change the standard filters. However, if the MAF fails because of the build up of oil wouldn

Delcac, I know exactly where you're coming from mate. No one likes gunk in their internals. I've still got my investigative rain coat on but Mrs Columbo is starting to get restless. Here's some Vortex threads on oiled filters (I am trying not to be biased)

Although there seems to be a mob over there who are now brewing up their own Blow Off (ptsssh) Valves out of straws and fairy liquid bottles to replace the factory/forge DVs [dubious]. Scaaaary! I'm going for a nice cup of hot chocolate. The investigation continues...

I am now Bergerac

Is this helping at all? I find that going round in circles is fun :drive:

ps. a lot of these links mention K&N. I think that this is just 'cause in the past they have been the industry standard (in a similar way to people calling Vacuums, Hoovers i think)

Some interesting points raised in those links.

One or two of the posts have highlighted a couple of things I have been thinking about, concerning the MAF.

1. I would imagine that oil vapours from the crankcase ventilation system are far more harmful to the MAF than excess oil from a k&N for example. If the MAF can take punishment from the CCV, then failures caused by oiled filters seem dubious.

2. Also where is the exhaust gas recircuilation system reintroduced to the air intake? Is it before or after the MAF? if its before, the EGR wouldnt do the MAF much good either.

Any ideas?

Atleast the CCV does not go to the MAF or airbox in the RS. And as you said oil from the CCV, I would imagine, would be just as bad for MAF as oil from an airfiter.
