Over heating Favorit 1988

Featured Replies

I agree the running temp should be about half way on the guage, and the fan cut in between the halfway point and three quarters. If it is running at the top of the white band i would say you have got problems

If Favorits have 2-stage fans (either dual speed or 2 units [i know they only have one; the 2 units are an alternate method of implimenting a 2-stage system]), the "top of the white" is where I'd expect the second stage to cut in!

Hi guys. Just to confirm. I have installed a new motor for the fan. Alls good. The fan cuts in around 82 to 85 and cools the temp down to the normal running temp just above the middle. It was the most easiest of jobs so far on the Fav. The old girl is back to running sweet. However it rained like B_(*&^d today and I some drips of water were found around the fuse box side, which on my car is on the right as you may know. I drive a LHD car in CZ. Does anyone know were it might be coming from?

Windscreen seals, same as with RHD cars?

Is this a re-fit or new windsreen then Ken?

If it's the same problem, it's a new seal. Whether or not you need a new screen depends on how good you are at getting the old one out without breaking it.

my rad thermostat went and caused the same problem..

i fixed it pikey spec and just hotwired the fan so it ran all the time!

a new stat isn't expensive though!

Strange overheating for my favorit 136L (=1990)

I had found oil in the cooling system from damage (=rust) cup. I changed all the cups, head gasket, water pump, radiator, thermostat, electric thermostat, expansion tank cup, (all new). I make very good rinse and fill again, with & without anti-freezer (for test). Also I found blocked so I clean the hole of drain plug beside the petrol pump. The same problem… nothing happens without load & everything ostensibly works (=ventilator etc) At uphill or drive in high way with 5th & ~3000rpm make air in the system (with or without thermostat), fan doesn’t works (because air), inflate of water etc. I have this car for 20years, run ~289000km and never had overheating problems. Thermostat open 85oC, Expansion tank cup 1 bar, Radiator cooling fan 95-85oC. I rinse 4 times with different ways the system finally with ~2 bar drain water (engine off) for 20 min with this way

Also the exhaust checking & its ok (both ~ 5000km)… Before up repair the engine again & because don't believe that exhaust air go to the coolant system (=clean water)somebody thoughts for better way to clean the system?

p.s.I believe that its not possible to put false head gasket & stop the water flow.

Thanks for your time.-
