Hullo!

Featured Replies

Hullo,

I have just joined as am likely to be buying my first skoda this weekend, and this seems to be a good and helpful forum.

I have a choice to make, and any guidance would be welcome. Am looking at two 5 year old Octavias, both high mileage ish, both with new cam belts this week and a full service.

Do I choose (a) the 125k car with FSH every 10k on the dot. or

(B) the 90k car with sketchy history between 50-90k.

Both diesels same spec etc.

At the moment it is down to what they are like when I see them.

Welcome :)

Hiya.

Dunno. Does the 90K car have a service at 50k, maybe co-inciding with a chance of owner, and then the next one at maybe 70K or so, and then a recent one? If so, I'd say it's on variable service, and the sketchy history is nothing of the kind.

Otherwise, I'd be inclined to go with the 125k car, just cos it actually has a FSH.

welcome to briskoda

Thanks for the advice

Looks variable initially, 10k, 27k, 53k, but then nothing to current.

Is there anything else I should consider?

That looks like variable, with a missing or undocumented 70kish. Ask the vendor, and if it's a garage, ask if you can have the last keeper's details. If they refuse, walk away. If you don't get an answer showing a service was done, walk away. If they talk about DIY with VAGCom, ask to see the cable. If they've not got it wal away.

Check all the electrics work, noting that both front windows have 1-touch. Elegance models will have front fogs, 4 leccy windows, full climate control which should be freezing cold on full chill, and 6 CD stacker in the boot.

Check the rear washer works. If it doesn't it's an easy fix, but a good bargaining point.

Update:

Went down the higher mileage route. Found that actually the 90k car had no 10k service, only 27 and 53. Also, the second car felt slightly better - smoother.

Hope to pick it up at the weekend.

Guess I will lurking round here from now on!

Thanks to everyone for the help.
