Featured Replies

hi all. have just purchased an 04 vrs, with 17,800 on the clock. its flashing inspection service at me. i phoned around some skoda dealers and im getting different info on what service it needs. from a standard yearly service, fluids and filters. to a full 4 year service including a cam belt change

any of u guys able to give me some advice on what she really needs

cheers in advance

rob

i got a service at 25k included filters, fluids and brake fluid. If i can find the sheet, i'll list what they did lol

According to my Haynes manual when 'INSP' flashes on the display you should -

Check condition of the exhaust system and mountings

Check all undernonnet components and hoses for leaks

Fuel filter water draining

Check the condition of the aux drive belt

Check the coolant antifreeze concentration

Check the brake hydraulic circuit for leaks and damage

Check the headlight beam adjustment

Renew the pollen filter

Check the manual transmision oil level

Check the underbody protection for damage

Check the condition of the driveshafts

Check the steering and suspension components for condition and security

Check the battery condition, security and electrolyte level

Lubricate all hinges and locks

Check the condition of the airbag units

Check the operation of the windscreen, tailgate, headlight washer systems

Check the engine management slef-diagnosis memory for faults

Check the operation of the sunroof and lubricate the guide rails

Carry out a road test and check the exhaust emissions.

I'm assuming that oil and filter change is included as well as checking the brake pad and disc thickness.....

The cam belt interval is 60,000 miles on a vRS.

Brake and clutch fluid should be replaced every 2 years.

Hope this helps...... :)

Did you not get a service booklet when you bought it? That will tell you exactly what you want, and when. If it's an 04-plate, you will be probably be needing an annual service (all what TommyC said), and despite the fact that it doesn't appear to be mentioned in the Haynes he's referring to, you will also need to replace your cambelt (every 60k or four years; or 80k or four years on newer engines - if you dare, which I didn't :o )

Fear of the cambelt change may have been why the car was traded-in  Should be about £200 from an independent. That plus the service will be around £400 I reckon...

cheers guys, great help

4 yrs - defo cambelt :(

I must admit i thought there should be a time limit as well as mileage on the cam belt change, but Haynes only say 60k, nowt about months or years.......

Sadly, it's not the only 'grey area' in the Haynes for the Fabia :( Instructions like 'next remove the dash console' (a little more guidance would be helpful! ) can be found throughout... :thumbdwn:

Don't get me wrong, I've got one - but I'll only defer to it if I can't find what I need on here! :)

Yeah, i'm half way through a cam belt change as i type, and i'm cross ref'ing Skud's guide with mr Haynes' poor attempt because skuds pics are much better. NOWHERE in the haynes manual does it specify which hole in the cam sprocket the locking tool is fitted, can't find a picture anywhere......(might be looking with my eye's closed though??!!! I has been known in the past!)

"simply remove"

"refitting is the reverse of removal"

"just improvise a tool"

etc, etc, etc.

NOT EVERYONE HAS A FULL WORKSHOP AT THEIR DISPOSAL MR HAYNES, YOU GIT!!!!!!!

Phew, sorry about that, rant over.
