Clonking noise on full lock! Help!!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am new to the site, but have had our Octavia 1.9sdi for nearly 5 years without any problems. Today however all has changed!!

I have noticed a clonking noise when the car is in full lock both left and right. I have seen other threads that say this has happened when changing gear but that doesn't seem to be the case here. We have taken off the two front tyres and all seems okay with the brakes. Does anyone have any ideas as we are due to travel up to Kent from Somerset tomorrow morning and now starting to panic!!

After reading other threads it appears it is a broken spring. Do you know if this is safe to drive? As I said, we are due to travel 150 miles tomorrow and now don't know whether to cancel.

Does it sound high up or more down towards the wheel?

Can you feel it? Does it resonate?

Does sound like a bust spring to me. If it is its not safe to drive.
