How do I release the pop up / tilt sunroof from my car? I need to check and clean the seal. I can see 2 x philips screws from the top when the roof is open> are these the ones to remove? thanks

I think that you have to snap off the interior plastic surround, and then you'll see about ten or twelve crosshead machine screws. These keep the two halves of the sunroof together. It's a good idea to dismantle the opening mechanism first. When you put it all back together, something like Sealastik, which comes in black, is probably as good as anything. It can be cleaned off with spirit, and it never quite goes off, so it remains slightly elastic for years, and will squidge into every tiny corner and crevasse. There are several other posts on this forum about sunroofs which you might like to read as well. Don't forget to clean the seal off fully but very carefully - a slit or break in the seal is just what you don't want!

Whoops - I've just reread your original message, and I suspect that all you want to know is how to dismantle the opening mechanism. I did it once, and it was pretty straightforward. If nobody else advises, I'll have a look at the car when I get home (I'm a very green cyclist for work!) and post another answer.

Undo the two phillips screws on the winding mechanism and the glass slips out from there. If you want to do a replacement of the outer seal do as Mr Music says above. Hope that helps a bit.

hold on,there is a red part to the opening mechanism just push that in it realises the bar and u can remove the glass without unscrewing anything the two bottom forks are just locating hindges, if its the same as my r reg. my r reg is a mk1.
