"Gear" for North Weald handling day?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what to bring? Is there anything extra that I've probably not thought about. At this stage I was going to bring both my 14" steels, and a manbag of regular tools. I would like to be able to do the whole thing without changing anything at all, but you never know. :D

What do the chaps that went the first time reckon, from experience?

It's not a trackday J, just make sure your car is checked over for the usual stuff and you'll be fine :)

My front tyres are at about 3mm (T1Rs) and the rears are 4 year old Michelins....should I be worried?

My fronts are 4mm, rears 6mm. Not worried about the rears, but a dry day may finish the fronts off for all practical purposes.

I was thinking about getting event tyres up to do a load of tyres there if needed.

Are you nuts!, thats plenty

Yep, I'm just checking over the usuals

And I have 3.5mm front and 5mm rear, seeing as we're all quoting tyre depths :P Summer wheels going on next month too :woot: ;)

All anyone needs to bring is:

you

your car

money for food/drink/fuel

sat nav if you really have trouble finding a place that is signposted.

Change of clothes if you are staying in the travel lodge.

It is nothing like a track day, just for you to find out handling limits of the car, so you will not be doing burnouts, you will not be doing really high speeds around corners.

not sure, but it might be worth taking driving licence as well, i know what some of these places can be like.

you will not be doing really high speeds around corners.

Apart from when we do the "high speed corner"?

Apart from when we do the "high speed corner"?

I was thinking along the lines of 80-100 with very high speed

if it's the same as last time, it is about 60 mph and not a tight bend, surely peoples tyres can handle that with no trouble?

The place's setup is nothing like a track day as there is not the space.

Yeah I know, I was only being sarcastic ;) Anyway, might try a tad quicker than 60 :D

The reason it was only 60mph max around that corner last time was because of the attrocious weather. I believe the record for that corner is around 109mph!

In an Elise (driven by a very talented person). If you can manage more than about 70 in an Octavia, I'll be impressed.

It's about "feel" more than anything. You can treat it as a hairy-chested macho test, but actually light fingers make for a more effective corner. I wish my fingers were light enough ... :o

I've done 'ham-fisted' in an Exige, should be a doddle in a Fabia with an ARB ;):D

(I'll be in the middle of the field if anyone wants to come and talk to me :D:D)
