Felt like a right mechanic this evening!

Featured Replies

Well, a mechanic that is good at ripping stuff out a car.

Took this evening's good weather as an opportunity to gut out ALL the lpg gear from my car - Armed with a few tools I set about like this:

  • Jacked up the car from the middle using a trolley jack and some timber. Axle stands placed at front and back under sills. Left sat there.
  • Placed 4 carmats on road under car to lie on. Set about snipping (carefully as around brake lines) the cable ties holding the electrics & copper pipe
  • Removed, lowered and refitted the metal insert which goes across car to support exhaust? to allow lpg stuff to get off (I assume, seems superfluous to my needs - might rip it off next time)
  • Removed under steering wheel dash panel, and removed the electrics from the switchgear, taking photos and drawing diagram for re-installation
  • Had to cut some wires sadly, mainly earth ones which were out of reach. Re-attached nitrous power to the switched live I cut as had been integrated into the LPG electrics during install
  • Rerouted electrics from by driver, out behind and from under the glovebox, and through into the bulkhead
  • Wound the electrics from under the car back to the bulkhead to finally remove off my car. Included releasing a bolt holding an exhaust shield up, as the electrics was going behind it
  • Managed to bend/wiggle the copper pipework free from under the car
  • Unbolted the filler cap pipework (had to remove a rear light for spanner access), and removed filler cap from the car. Yep, you guessed it - nice 3" circular hole in my car! Can't get it fixed properly for a little while so used a section cut out of a 4 pint milk bottle and covered hole with it and double sided tape. Fingers crossed it is watertight.
  • Removed regulators from the engine bay - A sinch compared to the rest of it. Sealed up hole left in air intake pipework with tape. Need to get a new bit of pipe really....

All in all, done all the above in around 2 hours, so I was pleased as peach it went so well. Now have a box full of "stuff" and just need the lpg tank and it will all go to the new owner.

why did you remove it?

LPG is soooooo last year

Removed due to me having race nozzles, and having adequate fuelling. Also plan to try methanol/water injection.

PS KTP - I need your help very soon. ;) Will draft out a PM at some point this evening. :D

Here's two pics of holes in my car. :D All good fun in the world of mongrelling.

Hole in the side of my car.

Is this a new Mongrel thing Jason - a rear light cluster, sans lenses, installed in the wheel well? It looks cool, but I'd question its functionality.

The light unit was refitted along with the cluster later on?! :P :D

Anway, both sides are coming out tomorrow morning as I go to collect my facelift clusters from the post office.

You can buy Fabia light clusters in the Post Office now :rofl:

Sorry couldn,t resist that one.

I didn't think you could LPG convert a diesel car? Or am I missing something here?

yes you can, its done to clean the burn rather than run on lpg.

Or in my case, provide too much fuel and create a smoke hazard, hence it going. Well, here's some photos from today.

Complete powershot propane kit! (sold ;))

And my very temporary LPG filler cap hole cover-up! Is likely to be on there for North Weald which might prove to be a source of amusement
