3rd service

Featured Replies

Having third annual service done very soon, at specialist dealer (not main dealer). Fixed interval, car will be on 24000 miles, using semi synthetic, and having first MOT at same time. (End of warranty of course)

Anything in particular recommended that I should make sure is done at this time? It still feels great, and I have absolutely no complaints to make - even the door seals are finally quiet!!!

Tyres all look to still have a few thousand in them - well above the tread depth guides.

Car is 2.0FSI with manual gearbox.

why dont you get the MOT done at the dealers a month before the warranty runs out as thats what im planning to do. my mate has just done the same and saved about £600 as they found a load of faults that were fixed under the remaining warranty.

Now this sounds like a really good idea..... but what are the odds the dealer will just pass the car's MOT rather than acknowledge a list of faults that will cost them ~£600 that they will still have to fix under warranty?

Or are they in so much trouble for doing this and getting caught that they wouldn't risk it?

No dealer would do that they would be jepadising there MOT testers licence.

Interesting! Actually the day of the service/MOT is 3 days before the warranty runs out. So technically I could still take it down to the local warranty fixing place (Rivervale Portslade) and advise them of any problems. I expect that since the trouble would have been discovered while still under warranty, it would not matter if they couldn't actually be fixed till later. (???)

not so sure on the fixed later bit. im sure someone else will be along to advise. Ive actually kept all my servicing with the dealer whilst in warranty so any problems should have hopfully already been picked up! My mate had problem with oil in the coolant so several things had to be changed. he was quite lucky really as he only got it MOT'd early as he was going away.

As a result of this thread, I'm arranging with Rivervale [who can do warranty work] to do my MOT in early June.
