Replacing LED's in Third Brake Light - Help Please

Featured Replies

Anyone know how to go about changing the LED's or where to get new ones from. I have got one out at the moment and want to get it sorted.

Any ideas on cost too?

Thanks

Steve

I had some changed at a dealer under warranty but they are less than a pound each.

We changed some the other week in a 2004 Octavia, except that they were small capless bulbs and not LEDs. You should be able to get bulbs from any car spares place.

Yup, as above, just take the rear part of the light off & replace the duff one, then push it back into place. (Take care not to break it as you remove it). ;)

Thanks everyone, I will give this a go today.

When you remove the light unit, try to make sure you pull both sides at the same time. I uncliped one side and then the other and ended up scattering bulbs all over the boot!

You are likely to find that they have all gone black, and may end up replacing the lot, around 14 bulbs.

Am i right in thinking you can't change the ones in an estate?

Am i right in thinking you can't change the ones in an estate?

I've just had to replace the LED third brake light in my 03 vRS estate which come as a single unit at a cost of £58 from a skoda dealer

My estate definitely has LEDs and not bulbs. I've not taken it apart, but I think most manufacturers tend to solder the LEDs in place so they can't be replaced individually.

Estates are LED's and its a sealed unit, or should be a sealed unit. So should be replace, these are very common in estates.

You can remove the centre high-mounted brake light fitted to the Octavia Estate - but apparently not that fitted to the vRS Estate since the latter is part of the rear spoiler. To remove the standard Estate light, remove the front top trim panel inside the tailgate then lever the 3 retaining springs and and the catch out of the slots in the tailgate. Next, close the tailgate and pull the light fitting off the tailgate then separate the plug connector. To replace the bulbs, remove the 3 screws from the bulb holder. The bulbs push in.
