Door leak fix

Featured Replies

Well over the bank holiday weekend I finally got round to tackling the back door leaks. Door cards came off after a bit of a fight, those stupid clips things are the devils work, there's no way you can get a door card off without killing a few.

Anyway, all silicon'd up, left for a day to allow the silicon plenty of time to dry, then I set about putting everything back together again, passenger side went on fine, so did the drivers side, until I tried the internal handle, no worky! Bugger it, I thought the cable wasn't attached to the handle properly so I checked it before clipping the card back on, clealy it wasn't right. There's always something goes wrong, the job looked done, 100% fine, until I tried the handle, GRRRRRR.

So, do I do that door again, or live in dry blissful ignorance and blame the next person who sits in the back and tries to get out

You've not engaged the child lock by mistake, have you?

No I don't think so, there's no tension in the handle, feels like it's not attached to anything. But I will try your suggestion anyway, cheers.

More importantly what bits did you silicon up? My 06 is leaking like hell and the rear footwells are damp. Could do with getting this done next time [if there is one] the sun shines :)

Take the car to a dealership, they are more than aware that this problem exists and should fix it free of charge, warrenty or not! :)

 Not sure about that...??? I thought their stance was exactly the opposite, and out of warranty they'd tell you to take a running jump...???

Pretty much what I got, especially when they spied my PG speakers through the grilles :|

Anywhoo If I can solve the issue with a bead of silicon and a couple of hours it's better than heading to the dealership again :)

Found this:

Fabia-vrs.com - Re-sealing Fabia Rear Ancillaries Carriers

Which I assume is the fix so will be trying that this evening :)

Anyway, back on-topic...:

Anyone know what's up with this guy's door lock? ;):D

That's the instructions I followed.

The hardest part I found was getting the clips around the bottom and side of the door card out, a good bit of brute forced did it eventually, there's about seven in total I think, no doubt you'll break a few, must be the most unsuitable material for a clip ever!

EDIT....

There's a broken clip on this picture! and the hole below is missing it's clip, which means that one came off okay, the one that's in the door will be a right ******* to remove!

You can buy the clips in bags of 10 or so from Skoda. I think mine cost £2.15 or thereabouts.

There are little vibration dampers on them too. Which are easily overlooked or lost when wrestling the door card off.

Last time mine were off, I picked three of them up off the floor.

BTW: The clips that Halford sell are too small to work and probably, more expensive.

re. the door lock.... Make sure that both the inner and outer of the cable are attached properly.
