Boost gauges?

Featured Replies

Hello people

does anyone know how to fit a boost guage to my fabia vrs the only guide i have seen is the one on autodials.co.uk but i dunno if thats right or not

any help welcome thanks

Search would have got you some answers.

Its easy tho. I put mine againsed the window on the far right of the dash.

Drilled a 8mm hole through the dash and poked the wire and hose down.

Pull the wires and hoses around via the back of the fuse box.

Put the hose through the bulk head and up towards the intake.

I wired my wires up to the back of the headunit as i have one that goes black when its off.

HTH.

Dave

May sound like a really daft question but do you have a pic of where you connect the boost pipe intake? and any pics of your boost guage?

thanks

Found a message on my answer phone from you from weeks ago, stupid phone, why doesnt it tell me when i have a msg

Will give you a bell back when exams are done and dusted

anyway sorry to OP for off-topic, The boost gauge feed should come from the inlet manifold. You can either tap and thread the manifold itself, or tap the egr valve body.

I use an allard egr blank which has a tapping point on it.

You really want a digital one for a diesel the mechanical ones are really noisy and might do your head in. also get one which reads 0-3bar. no need for negative on a TDI they dont make vacumn

sorry for the hijack, but what boost does the VRS run?

just wondering out of curiosity more than anything as my old mx-5 used to run at 12psi

Where to put the boost gauge pipe:

I drilled a hole in the plastic next to the EGR valve (in the plastic pipe, with the pipe unclipped and off the car). Then fould a tube with a flange on the end.

Put the flange/nipple/thing down the boost pipe, and poke it through to the outside.

Dont forget to glue it. Best use Aroldite(spelt wrong, but said right!).

Push boost gauge tube on before you put the intake pipe back on.

Can you take a pic please of where you connected the pipe in?

stock boost of fabia vRS is about 1.2 bar, so that's about 17 PSI as standard. This is why your normal petrol boost gauge is not suitable. I have a racetech 2.5 bar traditional needle style gauge. Gets boost feed in same way as Jon's above - Allards EGR replacing racepipe has a dedicated tap. Also, whilst my install is not pretty it is very effective in that I barely need to take my eyes off the road to keep an eye on that needle (and I have maxed out this gauge on overboost before whilst having running issues  2.5 bar = 36 psi :D)

You can see my boost feed coming off the pipe in this shot.

My boost guage

Such a sweet install looks ace and the boost guage is one of the best looking ones i have seen .

I just dont have the tools/know how to do this:(

On the pic above, mine is in the pipe on the bottom left hand side, going into the blue samico.

Right next to the cambelt cover.

Ive got a AutoGauge boost gauge like this one, but in Bar, 'cos im an oldschool westcountry farmer... Auto Gauge 52mm 270° Smoke Boost (PSI) Gauge. (guage) on eBay, also Dial, Dash Switch Custom'n, Interior Styling, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 28-May-08 15:36:01 BST)

Paid £14 delivered about 4 months ago! Came in 4 days from hong kong.

Dont think its cheap and nasty tho.

Got a mag somewhere where they tested pressure accurasy. Mine was about 3% out, where as TIM and VDO where upto 17% out from 5psi!!!

Mine is 2bar.

HTH, Dave.

1.35 bar

1.5-1.6 bar mapped

Mine runs 1.9 bar ;)
