What boost pressure is acceptable?

Featured Replies

i'm running a remapped fabia vrs and according to my new dash dyno, the car runs a steady 22psi boost. Would this be able to go higher to achieve more bhp and what are the acceptable levels on both the standard turbo and the hybrid turbos?

Alex

think this has been covered before in other threads.

IIrc - no more than 1.65 Bar for the OEM kkk turbo (pushing it to the absolute max) and 2 Bar for the TD stage 2 (which it can run all day long) That's steady pressure, you can allow quick boost spikes over that a tad..

What would you think a hybrid KKK would be ok to run?

Alex

well my turbo used to run around 1.8 bar....... on a stage 2 hybrid im going to run it at 2.0 bar though,

if your running the standard turbo i agree with basil :-1.6 bar :)

22 psi is around 1.6 bar which is safe for a standard vnt17, but at the top limit. I would not push more without a stronger turbo. :)

This is interesting to me too. Sorry, if already covered.

So, I got a friend who is a well known remapper round here. According to him hold boost of 1,5 bar and a peak at 1,9 bar would be perfectly fine for this turbo. I am not sure how long will it survive under such constant pressures. What do you say? Also I am pretty sure that at 1,9 bar peak boost my clutch will be slipping like feck... :(

thing is you could tune any turbo to beyond it's design limit - would work fine for a while and then an expensive noise would come from behind the engine.

Unless you're entering a race, there is deffo a place for some conservatism in deciding on a final steady boost and spike boost limit.

If you notice, several people who have hit the max bhp have gone through at least one ( and in some cases even 2) turbo's.

A "blueprinted" OEM turbo may be able to rise to the challenge a tad better than an OEM stock one, but proper turbo-building companies can usually provide you with their own recommendations, which admittedly could be slightly lower than what you could run as they provide warranties.

Turbo Dynamics is very good in the this regard, I saw the turbo map before I bought mine (misplaced since as usual!)....

Yeah I remember getting the compressor map for you when forge order'd it off me.
