So my first car is a Skoda.

Featured Replies

Well, I guess I should feel at home here, my family have been passionate Volkswagen'eurs for a very long time, doing and seeing many things on the VW scene. (Mainly Drag Racing).

I'm 17, and couldn't say no to a £200 R reg 1997/8 Skoda Felicia 1.9 Diesel It is extremely high on insureance (£3600) a year, but I'm told it's equal to a 1.6 Petrol, so I think it's because of my age. So I'll decide to run on a Provision until I turn 18. then hopefully it will go down once i've been with the company for some time too. I don't have a liscence, the car doesn't have an MOT Ticket, or Tax, so I'm just on my way round to checking around the car and doing a pre-mot Check, before I send it into my uncles Volkswagen and Audi specialist garage.

About me, I'm from Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, and have only started working recently scince the start of the year (Jan 08)

Hello to all, I hope we all share the same or similar passion to Skoda's, And I for one Love getting ribbed in work for having a Skoda. Skoda is a sign of Sense, and a sign of rigidity. Also, being a re-badged Volkwagen (except for some exterior parts and the gearbox) makes it alot easier to feel proud about in my driveway!

Welcome and enjoy the Skoda experiance. You'll get used to the ribbings from other people that aren't in the know. Just wait until you're old enough for a vRS and then wipe the smile off their faces with the performance and value!

Good luck, Skodas are addictive.

Welcome to the forum

Hello and welcome to Briskoda...

My first experience of a Skoda was when my grandfather (RIP) bought 105 estelle's brand new years ago..

I used to get a ribbing from school mates when he picked me up in it..He always bough them new and they were basic but uber reliable, easy to maintain and excellent value...

I have since had a Felicia diesel and now a VRS. I have had Ford's, Vauxhalls, BMW's, Volvo's, and Audi's and the best cars I have had have been the Skoda.

The Audi was a good car also but did not have the same value for the money..and was costly to maintain..

Skoda's are the way forward..;)

Welcome to Briskoda! :) I had crazy insurance costs when I first started driving, but they do get more sensible as you rack up the years that you've had a licence and/or some NCB!

Sorry, you appear to have got something wrong there...

...you said that insurance for a £200 1997 1.9d Felicia was £3,600. You mean £360 right?

Anywho, welcome to Briskoda Jake. :)

Welcome :)

Welcome to Briskoda. :)

Enjoy the car.

Hiya.

£3600 for insurance!!? Ok, I'm now 45, but think I've spent less on insurance over the last 12 years, including rolling a ZX!

Welcome to Briskoda. - I would look into your insurance.

I am only 19 with 1YNCB and live in a really rough area - Insure both a 2.0 Honda Civic Type R and A Clio 1.2 Dynamic both 2004 upwards..

This still comes to alot less than your car!

On the plus side - Get some pictures up. Don't worry about what others say. It's still your car and gets you from A to B.

Enjoy it.

I used several insureance deal websites to see what the lowest was, and it came to £3600 a year :(.

I'm not bothered about what others say about my car. It's one of the roomiest cars I've ever been in, for what is on the outside, it seems like there is more on the inside, gears are good 3rd gears a little hard to find sometimes (although i suppose i shouldn't have driven it, right? :P) On a provisional licence it's £1200 with the same company that gave me £3600 on a full licence. I suppose I should take pictures, there is a tiny bit of rust on the tailgate, just around the Skoda badge :thumbdwn: and one of the previous owners has dented the passengers side front wing, apart from that the condition of the car is unmatched, interior is spotless, just needs a vacuuming and maybe a new steering wheel, as the original wheel is quite worn, but still useable and not rough to touch in anyway :)

I guess they are really jacking young drivers these days, unless you are driving a 1litre Vauxhall Corsa or Ford Fiesta you really won't catch a break, and it's annoying, cos these 2 manufacturers of cars are the 2 I hate the most.

Thanks for the welcome atmosphere tho guys,

welcome along to the briskoda forum.

:)Welcome.

Also, being a re-badged Volkwagen (except for some exterior parts and the gearbox) makes it alot easier to feel proud about in my driveway!

:)The Felicia is definately not a re-badged VW, it's a heavily facelifted Favorit with a VW engine. The steering wheel and some electrical parts are also from VW. VW cetainly made a good job of improving and modernising the Favorit to become the Felicia.
