Never seen a turbo this bad..

Featured Replies

I'm no stranger to a PD turbo giving up thats no secret. But when I got a 2.0 4Mo TDi Golf in the other day that was rather noisy and smoking I didnt expect to be hit on the head by the compressor wheel of the turbo when I took the undertray down. Bit of head scratching followed as to how that part got out of the turbo and then I saw. This was after the engine was removed...

The compressor side of the turbo has actually completely come away from the centre core of the turbo and is just hanging there on the pipe. Really bizzare thing is the core has stayed intact, a fair amount of oil has gone down the inlet but none leaked externally. There are bits of the compressor wheel everywhere in the intake system and the engine is knocking rather badly, new 2.0 lump and turbo coming up.

Oh dear! Thats pretty bad... wonder what caused that?

Gonna be expensive to fix aint it!!!

Saw one the same at a brisky members garage which was on a diesel with around 100k on the clock. It had just split in 2.

we are currently having a few problems with the turbos on the 1.6 TDCI engine in the Focus , seen a lot of dead ones , never as bad as that though Ross

Thats quite impressive to do that!

Another head injury there.. to both you and the car..?

Oh damn that looks bad and very ££££££

wow - some interesting things you come across mate

please do keep posting them up....

Hope it was under warranty, other wise it'll be a £8K fix I reckon!!!
