Fuel cost reality

Featured Replies

Saw a post on here claiming £40 odd for half a tank. Just filled up at Sainsburys Grimsby with Diesel. My tank was almost empty (no light on though) The diesel was £1-25.9 per ltr and it cost me exactly £44-00. I know it's horrendous but not as bad as some claim. I think it's important to stick to facts. I have seen recession and believe me, if you are under 35 years old, you aint seen nothing yet!!

my vrs can hold about £68 from really empty to full using vent too.

most i've got in so far is £54 but i don't do that vent thing.

Oh yeah. I'm 38, and can remember the last one.

For the rcord, from fuel lamp to full, 49 quid at 123.9 per litre, last week.

Hey dude you're from Louth? I'm from Alford!!

Anyway, filled up at Asda in Hull the other day and that's 123.9 and I was on light and it cost me £60.10. FACT.

In reality it's costing me around £3 a week more to do my usual commute. Soon it'll be an extra £5 a week. So £20 more a month, I don't earn loads but I can live with that.

However, it's the costs we don't see as the prices of our food creeps up in the supermarkets because they have to pay more to transport the damn stuff. That's what really scares me.

Then we can't afford to spend more on "luxuries" like DVDs, CDs, games, going to the cinema, then the economy gets properly f*cked...

People don't seem to understand this!

I'm 33 and I remember the last one.

i'm 26 and i remember the effects of the last one as my dad has always been self employed.

Aren't you glad you ditched the petrol slush box now?

£64 for me at 128.9

£64 for me at 128.9

135.2 round here

I shuddered when i saw the local texaco advertising at 132.9 last weekend, it's really starting to hit home, ever since it went over £1 a litre we seem to have been complacent, it was only 75p or thereabouts when i started driving, and that's not very long ago, will be twice the price by the end of the year...

Shell at willerby this week Optimax was 119.9p and I had 5 miles remaining according to the computer thing. Took £65 to fill it!!! Ouch.

It's when all the negative equity stuff starts to come up again that will depress people.

If I was being cynical then I would suggest that the current government are trying to make things as messy as possible so when they loose whoever gets in has a mare of a job and labour can sit back and say we told you so!!!

ooops politics, will get me coat!! lol

Cheers

I put nearly £60 worth of diesel into the golf at the start of march and it was only about £1.17/litre then. Not had to fill up recently but I'm not looking forward to it:thumbdwn:.

What worries me more is how much it is going to affect the cost of pretty much everything over the next few months. Two local transport companies have gone under over the past week with rising fuel prices to blame.

£1.35.9 in a BP Garage near me for the black stuff :/

I am a bit lost, what is the vent thing?

Filled mine up last Friday for the first time since I bought it, was just about on the last mark on the gauge and I managed to squeeze 40l in at 125.9 per litre = £50.37, I'd covered 344.3 miles (all a+b road, most getting used to the car so a fair bit of hard acceleration) computer was indicating 42.7mpg I worked it out to be 39.1 so I'm pretty happy with that my last car used to average 28mpg on the same driving.

Wasn't a claim, that's how much it was from just under half to completely full using the vent method. And although I'm only 24, I know the effects of a recession the last one caused my family to lose pretty much everything. So don't make accusations and don't make blanket statements.

and i remember the last one too, seeing my dad out of work for over a year and not getting or earning anything like he did before he was made redundant. i also remember my dad being to proud to sign on and the relentless interviews he would go to. from having pocket money, treats, the odd day out and holiday to none of it and the only money i had was from 3 paperrounds.

Yes, well I'm sorry your family was so badly hit. It's not nice to hear of such things, but it was a tongue in cheek posting and I was referring to the big recessions of the 1940s/50s and again in 70's where millions were out of work and the luxiouries we have today could not even be dreamed of.( I do remember them) Please don't take my post as personal. How was I to know you'd done a 'mod' on your car, (and then have the cheek to complain how much it costs to fill it??) LOL.

Just got 500+ out of a tank so pretty good - all motorway driving at sensible speed. I am putting in around £52 from really empty.

Orta, I know Alford very well! (Friends in Sloothby and Well!) :)

Thats still only 25% or so of the cost of a litre of the real black stuff :o

I'm leaving the car at home more, and have been cycling to work recently, so my spend on fuel has actually gone down  I relaise not everyone can do this
