Felicia Help - Just been to look at one

Featured Replies

Just been to look at a Felicia for Debbie my Girlfriend.

Its a 1997 P reg 1.3 LX. It was a P/X at a garage and is up for £595.

Here is the link: Autotrader - SKODA Felicia 1.3 LX

No MOT at present, but will be MOT'd upon deposit paid.

It has a few small niggles, but nothing that cant be sorted easily. It needs a new front indicator cover, rear drivers side door wont open, new drivers seat (But is okay for now) and a bit of internal trim from the boot hinge is missing.

Car started nicely from a booster pack as it had been standing around for a few weeks, clutch was light. I couldn't drive the car as it was stuck at the rear of the garage. No signs of leaking from the ground underneath the engine.

Is there anything to look out for on the felica or any pointers prior to buying ?

E.g. Are they chain driven, what is the tax band, etc. Anything will help.

Many Thanks

Matt & Debbie:rolleyes:

Looks like my Girlfriend could be joining Briskoda.net soon.:D

Skoda Felicia Front Indicator Unit L/H (Passenger Side) - £5.99 : Jorily, The Skoda Parts Shop

Does the rear door open from the inside? If so it's probably just the rod inside the door has broken, relatively easy to sort.

Things to look out for include windscreen leaks (check fusebox and soundproofing material both sides for dampness). Rusty shock absorber spring cups, rusty bottom ones means the spring could go boing at any time. Rusty rear wheel arches.

Chain driven although these can stretch loose and rattle as no pretensioner was included in the design. As pre- march 2001 it's in the under 1.6 litre tax band which I think is currently £120 per year.

They changed from Monomotronic single point injection (round air filter housing) to Simos multi point injection (rectangular air filter housing) on the P plate. If it is an MPi, when you take it for a test drive, ensure that the temperature gauge moves up to at least the middle whilst moving. If it doesn't it could mean £50 for a new thermostat assembly.

The indicator lens is not an MOT fail as the bulb is coloured, they are around £25 from a Skoda dealer.

Not going for this one now, Looking at another one next weekend.

You might be able to get one a little cheaper than the one you mention anyway - I think they're the sort of car the dealers eventually just want rid of to put a car that will make them more money in the space. You could also hold out for a GLXi with slightly nicer seats (believe they are velour upholstered), sunroof and front fogs. Also low mileage examples don't always fetch all that much more than those around 100k miles.

Oh, just in case you didn't know, they're not based on a VW polo. They're based on the all Skoda Favorit. Unfortunately it's a common misconception apparently used in an attempt to increase the sale value of the Felicia's. They're still a good solid reliable car though.

I'm sure ita a GLXI I'm looking at the weekend. A lot tidier motor than the one we looked at.

Theres quite a few hanging around on Fleabay.

Mileage doesnt affect the price that much.

Mines going on 106k, the interiors clean and comfortable :D

Some GLXis have the alloys.

Think you should definately hold out for as long as you can and get the tidiest one possible...

And would go for a GLXi or similar as i don't think i could live without central locking, electric windows etc in mine!

Good luck!

Phil
