protecting new alloys

Featured Replies

Just bought a set of expensive aftermarket alloys and was wondering whats the best way to protect them from brakedust etc before I have the tyres fitted to them?

I have some Poorboys alloy wheel sealer, is that good enough?

Also, I was wondering, if I got some of the transparent paint protection film you can apply to car fronts to protect against stone chips etc, would it be feasible to cut out some for the inside of the alloys to stop brake dust sticking to it?

If so, it would be so much easier to clean.

Or is there a danger to that? eg Heat build up or something?

Thanks in advance

Damian

Coat of normal polish, then a coat of poorboys wheel sealant. Done mine recently and although brake dust still settles on them, it's easy peeeezy to wash them clean.

I prefer Jetseal, but any good wheel sealer/wax will do more or less the same job, and if topped up regularly, you shouldn't need to use anything other than your normal car shampoo to clean them.

I would imagine the excessive heat would cause it to peel off.

Another vote for Jetseal 109 here..................I love it.............

Stick with what you have Damo.

Everyone has their own fav combos but get a good 2 or 3 coats on the wheels and you will be sorted

I agree usually polish with autoglym and then 2 coats of Poorboys wheel sealent.

What's likely to be the best for durability so I don't have to take the wheels off all the time to get to the rears where you don't see it?
