Fix for loose exhaust heatshield

Featured Replies

After wondering why the pinging sound when I slammed the boot of my Fabia had got worse lately, I traced the noise under the car to find that the exhaust heatshield was only held on down one side. The rear clip had corroded so that it no longer gripped the stud, and the front one wasn't there at all (the pinging noise had been there since new, but I'd assumed it was made by the dealer's number plate surround - obviously not! )

The solution? Normal household curtain hooks (the ones shaped a bit like '@'). They just push over the studs, and Robert's your father's brother. I was a bit worried about them melting, but no probs so far after a few motorway trips. :)

Anyway, just thought I'd share...
