Hey all, I got my car back from the dealers after a new turbo, and they said they cant fix the warm start problem (it turns too long and labours like its running to rich..) I asked had they checked temp sensor, they said it made no difference, has anyone else had this problem as im a bit peeved to be honest, because if this fault cant be fixed i might be forced to take proceedings against the dealer.

I've had the same problem but the dealer seems to think that it is a problem with the starter motor. I don't expect the car back for a while though die to other problems (list too long so won't start!). When ever warm the car would take about 2 or 3 turns to start.

Only just got my PD140 and it does exactly the same.

It fires straight away from cold, but takes ages when warm :(

Mine starts first time, usually within 2 seconds cold or hot.

Whats the fuel pressure like when warm?

Fault codes?

Compression when warm?

Its a bit difficult to say without this kind of information. An injector fault wouldnt be unheard of.

Bit of a numpty when it comes to anything technical

How do I check the fuel pressure?

I have asked a friend to plug me into vag com asap (Do you mean anytime or just when the car has started from warm?)

How do I check the compression?

Numpty says it all (no offence at all).

These things all need to be checked by a specialist/dealer. They require tools and equipment that runs into thousands of pounds to diagnose whats going on.

I'm a numpty aswell. I stuck a gearbox in today, did all the bell housing bolts up, fitted all the mountings and shafts.

Then realised I have left the release bearing and lever arm on my tool box.....doh. Box back out again...lol

To cut a long story short, car off road for approx. 6 weeks after catastrophic engine failure caused by turbo collapsing.

Got car back after repair - started ok, drove home wouldn't restart when hot. Left to cool started ok again, drove 4 miles - wouldn't restart when warm. Left to cool again and would start again. Drove to dealers next day and asked service manager to switch the engine off and then restart the car. It wouldn't start!!

Handed car back to dealers and it was off the road then for about 7/8 weeks trying to diagnose non-starting problem.

Dealer tried sensors, sensor wiring, ECU's and associated wiring. Technicians were involved from Skoda UK, parts were swapped over from other cars etc. etc. You name it the dealer tried it.

Believe it or not fault was eventually cured by replacing the starter motor. Who'd have thought to check that eh? 'non-starting problem', lets check the starter motor last!!

Sometimes I think the electronics on modern day cars take priority. If it can't be fixed by a laptop computer these days there's nothing wong with it.

Oh yes - very helpful bunch. Service manager at the time was Ian.

Only if there is a problem with a starter motor.

If the engine is turning over then the starter motor is working. With the slim exception maybe its not turning over fast enough.

did any of you guys get this sorted? im considering taking into a local VW garage, but im not sure how expensive it might be.

Is your fuel pump a bosch unit?

Older skodas had a hot start unit at which point I'd take the car to a diesel injection specialist.

On the older cars is was a fuel temp sensor inside the fuel pump which caused the problem IIRC.

The car also seems to occassionaly still go into limp mode, is this likely to be related?
