Octavia I Hatchback questions

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just gut myself a dog and when he is out driving with me he sits in the trunk with the "removable shelf" (Whats the correct english word for it? Im from denmark so ... help :D ) removed.

Question is ... on the Octavia Estate its a sort of flexible roll in, roll out solution to hide the luggage. Can you get that on the hatchback?

Also, can you get some sort of original curtain for the rear window so the poor dog is not fried by the sun? ;)

Hi Martin,

The removable shelf in the hatchback is commonly called a parcel shelf.

The roller shelf in the estate is sometimes referred to as a tonneau cover.

Don't ask me why in either case!

I have never seen a tonneau cover on a hatchback - on the estate there are fittings on the top/back of the rear seat that the cover unit snaps into if I remember correctly, so I don't think it could be easily done.

Looking on the UK Skoda accesories site, it appears that a sun blind is available....

Hopefully that part number will mean something to your local dealer.

As the dog has been gutted, it would be best fried would it not?! Sorry, I could not resist

Most people here would remove the shelf, maybe tint the rear window and leave the rear door windows open a bit. Personally my dog is not allowed anywhere near my car.

Parcel shelf is a hang-over from saloons, where it was fixed, and commonly used for storing small packages.

Tonneau I'm not clear on the original etymology of, but comes from covers used on open cars when the owner didn't want to rig a hood and sidescreens when parked in poos conditions.

Finally, leaving a dog in the car by itself in sunny conditions is a really bad idea (and illegal in the UK, don't actually know about Denmark). It's quite possible for the conditions in a closed car to get hot enough to kill the animal in a few hours.

I am NOT going to leave the dog in the car ... the dog is only in the car when going from A to B.

I am told that this courtain attaches to the parcel shelf and since it is removed when driving with the dog it wont work. Can anyone clarify this?

Ok mate; I wasn't clear on your intentions and thought it was as well to say that for the dog's sake is all.

tinted windows are a better and cheaper option. I have to have them on my car because on the odd occasion I am FORCED to put my dog in the car, he goes nuts and attacks reflections of light.

It also looks a lot cooler than curtains!
