Not another Tyre Thread !!

Featured Replies

As some of you might have read... Recently I experienced Tyre wear on the inside shoulder of the neerside tyre. Naturally I assumed this was tracking.

So I popped the spare on and today took it down to my local Tyre Fitters to have it checked. They put it up on the ramp and checked it with some laser guides and to my surprise all was well. They double and even triple checked it. So they then jacked up the front wheels and gave them a good shaking and again all was well.

So I got the original wheel out of the boot for them to look at and that to checked out ok.

So we were all a bit stumped. They said for me to keep an eye on it over the next 3-4 weeks and if I get uneven wear it may be down to the steering rack !!!! (I bloody hope not).

Any ideas guys? All is standard with the car and I've not had any similar problems in the past.

Thanks in advance....

I would think that if it has been some time since the TCA rear bushes have been replaced, then they need changing again - but maybe this time using the famous Seat Ibiza Cupra solid versions - and get a proper VAG independant to do the work - they will probably manage to set up the four wheel alignment correctly - something your average tyre place will not be able to do. Toe-in or out is only one part of the equation - camber setting might be causing it - or both changing due to torn TCA rear bushes. You have not been fitting shorter front springs?

Nah' all completely standard mate...

As I said they used several methods to check various angles and they all checked out.

They even mentioned that my bushes all looked to be ok.

Guess I'll have to wait and see.

mine did that 2 m8 it is the console bushes that cause mine but they didnt look 2 bad when you just look at them

I had my rear tyres put on the front yesterday as the outer edge on the front was going down more than the rears, The fitter there said one of the reasons the Turanzas are not cut as deep on the outer edge as the rest of the tyre, He actually got one he had replaced and showed me what he meant, I thought my tracking was out but its bob on,

Will have to get it down my local garage asap and ask him to check the bushes and steering linkages etc.
