central locking/alarm problems/tips

Featured Replies

I have just repaired my front passenger doorlock following the excellent guides and links on this site.

I had the classic symptoms of alarm going off randomly, central locking going banzai etc.

Once I had the lock removed and disassembled, it was obvious that I had 2 dry joints on the contacts for the door open/close microswitch, easily resoldered in 5 mins, jobs a goodun.

One thing that made it easy to narrow down which door was giving the problem was to disconnect the bottom (white) multi plug at the b or c pillar. Disconnecting this isolates the door lock electrically from the convenience system, and then all strange activity should stop. The door will only lock and unlock manually, so be careful when leaving the car!!!!
