Felicia Parts prices/overheating prob...

Featured Replies

On the way to my MOT (of all places!) my Fun overheated, and spewed a load of coolant out. I got it back, but due to last year of Uni stuff, haven't had time to sort it.

Had a look today, and have narrowed it down to the Fan motor or the fan switch. Basically the fan isn't coming on... the thermostat is doing its thing, so i think its one of those.

I ideally need to get it on the road asap, but don't know whether to pay stealer prices, or put up with the delivery times from an internet place. Just wondering if anyone knew how much either of the bits i need are from a dealer - i could get them tomorrow that way.

Cheers for the help.

Alex.

Dealers should be able to give you parts prices over the phone. Check that they include VAT though.

Dealer's prices are generally reasonable, but depends very much on what you're getting.

If I were you I would open up the thermostat housing and have a look at it and see if its excessively worn. The brass pin in the stat wears away the inside of the housing so it can't operate properly.

Also common, the thermostat can puncture through the back of the housing, smashing the water pump with it!

Have a look here http://briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/blimey-bizarre-cooling-system-fault-speechless-pics/73866/

Luckily thermostat housings aren't too dear. :)
