After a long and happy relationship with Skoda, I am just done the deal to trade in the Octy for A BMW 118d M sport.

Different motor but don't need so much space anymore. I am now doing 25-30,000 mls a year and so the economy of the baby beemer is really attractive. For this reason I have also gone back to a manual shift. Don't do much town/congested driving but reckon I will miss the DSG in these circumstances.

Anyone know of a decent BMW forum where I can pick up some tricks & Tips??? Not that you will get rid of me here so easily mind;)

Please remember that your new car will have indicators as standard and you dont automatically have right of way on every road you travel on. ;)

^ as above :)

A good choice and a highly rated motor..... hope you enjoy

Sure going for the M Sport spec will mean you don't lose that much come trade in time :)

Yeah, thats what I am hoping.

Also absolutely love the sports seats and reckoned that by the time I added these plus a few other bits to a lower spec car I might as well go the whole hogg with the M sport.

great, thanks your Ladyship

Ignore Tomo, you can now use the BMW lane on the motorways (it's also known as the outside lane):D, it’s the one that sometimes gets clogged up by Skodas. The indicators are a little odd to operate, at least for the for the first couple of days, but work quite well once you are used to them and they self cancel much better than the Octy ones.

You mean we get a lane all to our selves, thats even better that £35 road tax and fee admission to congestion zones:P:P:P:P:P:P

Yes and we win Grand Prixs too now.

Lady E, I'm now down to 3 cars:

118d M-sport

120d coupe M-sport

Mini Cooper D.

Thinking the mini is down due to the rear and front seat touching when I am driving, so it is looking like a 1 series.

Important question though is do you ever get close to the stated MPG figures for yours and does anyone know the situation is with the 118d and 120d as I hear both sides of the story from people I ask.

I’ve driven the Mini D and it’s amazingly economical. My friends daughter gets around 60+ mpg out of it (she drives very very slowly though) but you will need a chiropractor on standby I reckon.

I don’t get anywhere near the stated figures but I do tend to press on a little. Overall I get 41-43 mpg average which isn’t bad for a 1,500kg, 201 bhp car that does 148mph, 0-62 in 6.7secs and has me behind the wheel. I had a 120D for a day and got around 48 mpg still not too bad as it was new and I believe 118D owners regularly get over 50Mpg. The stop start thing really does work in town though and you get free congestion charge in London with the 118D this year. I found the M-Sport a bit too unyielding for Manchester’s roads so went for the SE. it doesn’t roll too much and seems fairly stable in corners although it does like to be loaded up before it feels happy. Turn in is amazing compared to my Octy.

I looked at the SE, but wanting the sports seats the M-Sport seems to gain you a lot more for the price of well just the seats added.

I test drove with and without Sport Seats and guess which option I fitted to my car??:D

give me a couple of weeks and I will be able to tell you a direct mpg comparison between a well worn 1.9tdi DSG Octavia and the nearly new 118d :)

Sports seats were a must for me and I must say I was impressed with the ride quality, which I had expected to be much more harsh. Soooo quiet too

Mind you my Octy was totally ruined after fitter Pirelli P6000 tyre - noisy harsh and not great wet road grip.

What I would say about the ride quality is wait till you hit your first proper pot hole and let me know if you think the suspension is quite firm or not:D:D

I was in a friend's 118D recently , and every time we went over a speed hump it was like the car was trying to pummel it back flat again.

I liked the car , but that would have put me off purchasing one - I just don't think I could take the impacts even if the car could

Aimed for a few pot hole on the drive back from picking car up, and while firm I didn't think it was overly so. - time will tell. But coming over the hill the turn in and steering feedback was oh soooooooooo good

Having had a drive in the M-Sport over some big pot holes, yes it's firm ;)
