Soapy water and lots and lots of patience

If it's the full length then I'd suggest using a spray using a mixture of water and a small drop of washing up liquid or similar. Apply liberally to the 'sticky' side and a little to the area on the car then align and squeegy out any bubbles. A hairdryer may help you mould round difficult angles in bodywork.

If it's the type of vinyl with a backing sheet this is better applied dry but will need a steady hand and is easier if pre aligned with masking tape.

What kind of 'sticky' are you applying?

Oooh nearly forgot, get yourself a VERY sharp blade like a craft knife and use the contours of the bodywork as a guide for your hand/fingers to trim accordingly.
