i twas peekin in the TSR site and found a listing for cams on the 20v turbo mk4 golfs?

would they also do them for the vrs? or do they and people already have them lol

or have chose not to?

just a wonder lol my mates mk2 golf had some done and that made alot of difference lol that and a performance head lol lol

I would contact TSR and give them with your engine code to see if the engine you have is compatable with their cams.

I think that Gary on here who works for Piper is looking at a set of cams for the 1.8 20vt might be worth dropping him a PM

I was supposed to be supplying my set out the Octy, but i sold the car.

He may still be looking so i would get in touch.

I think changing cams is one of the last things to do tuning wise especially on a turbocharged car.

cams cost lots and don't normally gain much so as said above are a sort of power chaser type thing once you've done everything else.

i was told aswell that you don't run super aggressive cams on turbo cars anyway so your not going to gain much.

The existing cam is too peaky requiring a lot of rpm to make power in my opinion, vey little 'grunt' from this engine. Unless you want to make it practically powerless below 5,000 and have to drop two gears all the time to accelerate, you won't want a hotter cam.

Now if they did a milder cam for street running, that would be interesting, something that helped put a lot of power down between 2,000 and 3,000rpm for good mid range and passing power without the delay of having to change gear.

mine starts making boost at 2000-2200 and 1.5bar (and hence peak torque) at 2800rpm.. how much lower do you need to go?

That's not bad at all, I just wouldn't want it shifted 'up' any more. If you drive a V8 or a VNT turbocharged diesel eg a 140PD or something, the revs were yours is just starting to come on boost they are bang well into the max torque band and doing about 85mph at that revs, VERY relaxed and instant acceleration.

Comparitively, in daily driving, the 1.8T feels flat if you suddenly need to 'go'. If you have planned acceleration, eg off from the traffic lights, you can let the revs sing up and it shifts - naturally.

The 1.8T is lower geared to help this, but that doesn't help economy and it doesn't make for relaxed revs at motorway speeds.

Maybe I just need more cogs ;-) Or a remap, that may well alter the flavour though I still can't see it holding good boost at 1,500 - 2,000 rpm which is the torque space you need it when filtering through traffic and a gap opens up.

the 1.8T has no torque low down? a 150bhp 1.8T has full torque from something like 1750-5500rpm, if thats not a wide enough power band then what is?

I have to agree with bengie, the 1.8T has a cracking power band for what is a small capacity yet high HP output engine, it's the top end that suffers rather than the lower end.

Maybe Greg your driving style doesn't suit a smallish capacity turbo engine, maybe you are used to lazy large capacity NA's? - IMO if you find yourself off the bottom of the power band than it's simply in the wrong gear.. :)
