New Problem Air Conditioning :::((((

Featured Replies

My aircon has been gettingless and less effective over the last few months so at its service I asked them to check the refrigerant level. They topped it up saying it was nearly empty..fantastic..it was like a fridge ;;)) but then............while i was driving, a BIG LONG FARTING sound came from the engine followed by smoke ;;(( and..the aircon is again blowing warm air..I think the noise came from the coolent escaping from somewhere but from where,, I can't figure out.

Any ideas or suggestions ???? help

Had exactly the same sounds and gas escaping from a brand new VW Transporter van (20 miles on the clock).VW centre played with it for a total of 10 days, and finally had to change the evaporator which is not a nice job and the compressor.

I would suggest an immediate revisit to your dealer as it doesnt sound at all good, or cheap.

Isnt your car under warranty? If so, get it in quick. A/C faults can be very very expensive :eek:

Could be the seals have dried out and let go once the pressure was back in the system. If it is just a seal then it won't be *too* bad. I know what its like not having aircon in the summer months - I was without mine for three weeks last August.

Betty Swollocks indeed!

Get it regassed and ask them to add a uv dye.

It will show exactly where its leaking. But having said that it does sound like it should be pretty obvious. For a obvious leak id say the bottom condensor o ring on the n/s, allways a favorite for some reason.
