window not auto anymore?

Featured Replies

well ive had my car in the garage the last few days getting new clutch and flywheel fitted which means the batterey has been off for awhile, anyway ive just noticed my Auto Electric window isnt working the window works fine other wise just not the one touch up/down. Is there anyway i can fix this? maybe resetting something?

Thanks,

Mark

I'm pretty sure you double click or click and hold - sorry I cannot remember the specifics!

Put windows right up, then let go of the switch and push the button to "up" and hold there for 3 or 4 seconds. Then auto- up/down will be restored. :)

I too had this problem mate. The driver's window was not auto but the passenger's was. In my case the switch assembly was replaced and all was fine, a small plastic bit that held the driver's switch had broken. If the reset route fails, try taking the switch unit out and having a look, you might spot a broken part like I did. Hopefully you'll sort it with the reset but failing that the new switch unit only costs about £25 ish.

hmm strange, sure the reset procedure in my manual says to use the key to reset the auto up/down feature... something like turn to the left in the lock and hold for 3 seconds, then you can hear them click

or maybe i'm just going insane

New window switch, 2 minute job.

Quite common with VW's

Put windows right up, then let go of the switch and push the button to "up" and hold there for 3 or 4 seconds. Then auto- up/down will be restored. :)

This is the procedure my husband had to use on his Audi A6

From the manual

Operational faults

Electrically operated power windows do not operate

If the battery of the car has been disconnected and then reconnected, the electrically

operated power windows do not operate. The system must be activated.

Proceed as follows in order to re-establish the function:

• turn the key in the lock of the driver door into the closing position and hold it

there until all of the windows are closed,

• release the key,

• Once again insert the key and turn it into the closing position for about 3

seconds.

Worth trying both before buying a new switch
