Carb

Featured Replies

is it possible to adjust a standard carb on a favorit M reg to get a little more out of the acceleration?

i have the filter off and dont think any electronics run it at all so is there a way to adjust fuel and air? and anything else there may be?

Is this a pickup as I believe the pickups had carbs throughout production?

However, an M reg favorit otherwise should have the Bosch monomotronic injection system, the ECU is located directly in front of the battery with a big plug on top of it. If so it is in no way adjustable. Best thing you can do though is spray some carb cleaner on the throttle body butterfly thing (the bit that moves with the accelerator cable).

my bad a friend had the bonnet up he cant know much about them the ecu is in front of the battery and there are sensors and wires off from everywhere

im in my house and hes outside

do you know the tappet settings for the favorit?

is there anything you can to for performance without any changes of parts? how much is it to re-map an ecu?

I do not believe the ECU can be remapped, however I believe it is possible to remove the rev limiter somehow (although I do not know how). I guess it may be possible to put in an aftermarket ECU but I imagine this would require quite a bit of technical knowledge.

Valve clearances - haynes states 0.2mm all round.

As for changing performance without changing any parts, I don't think it's possible. Although I believe there are things like high lift cams, enlarged valves - and all that technical sort of stuff I don't really know too much about.

il look into removing the rev limiter,, wouldnt that just make it rev higher? i wouldnt of thought that would help much because when the car hits redline its allready out of its powerband..

cheers

anyone know how i would go about changing to carbs on the favorit and would it be a good move for a bit or power?

im told that there are some standard carbs on some cars that would fit straight onto the favorit that would increase power, namely some vw's like the scirocco is this true??

If it's M-reg, you may not be allowed to retro-fit carbs as your CO will go out of spec and fail the next MOT.

I don't have anything on the engine spec of a Skoda Challenge Favorit I'm afraid.

Alternatively, if you're prepared to spend out several hundred quid, what about going to separate throttle body injection on a Megasquirt or Emerald ECU?

im prepared to spend that much, but over time how much would i be looking? any sources?

Have a look in Practical Performance Car, and both of the companies I cited have their own websites. I'm also sure that Dave Walker at Emerald would give general advice on things like sourcing suitably sized injectors cheaply.
