climate control issues

Featured Replies

:confused:my climate control seems to have stopped working.....all fans are ok...everything seems to be normal....except it won't cool very well.

where do i start looking....vag com does'nt show any faults.....octavia 11 2005

If the airflow is normal have it checked for coolant agent leaks.

If the airflow is absent/diminished no matter what you dial the fan to check the flap motors and the fan. Start with the fuses, while you're at it.

cooant agent....where's that?

There's a low pressure and a high pressure port under the bonnet coming from the compressor. One's for refilling, the other for checking the pressure.

You can't do that bit yourself, you need to go to anybody who checks/installs aircons even if they're not for autos, or fridge repair people.

Also, while under the bonnet check the aircon compressor clutch is working. Have somebody press the econ button then press it again with the engine running. Look for another item spinning on the accessory belt.

actually the smaller fan[for cooling condensor..i presume]..does'nt seem to come on......

It's no issue if it doesn't come on for the first couple of minutes, depending what the outside temp is.

It might get enough airflow from the engine radiator fan or, coolant not circulating might mean there's nothing warm in there to cool, hence no start.

Check the fuse box in the driver's side end of the dash for burnt fuses, if that's ok then check if the aircon compressor starts turning when the econ light goes out on the controls.

Can't find any pics of the 1.9 TDI I suspect you have with the accessory belt on, so just follow the hose/pipe lines coming from the aircon radiator to something bolted to the engine and turned by a belt, somewhere next to the alternator. You should see the outer part spinning with econ on, and the entire thing turning (the noise changes too) when econ is out.

If that worked, take the car to some aircon/fridge place to put in UV reactive coolant and check with the lamp where it comes out.

Beyond that, it's VAGcom for checking the fault codes and figuring out what they point to.

the fans don't come on at all...apperently they should once the a/c is on....found an interesting piece...FANS - FIX INSTRUCTIONS - 56 k NO - uk-mkivs repairing fans.....common problem.

i'll try to test fans if i can find connections somewhere.

Also look for chewed wires, I've seen what rodents did to a neighbour's weekend car.
