What was your reason for re-mapping your Fabia?

Featured Replies

I also am seriously considering a remap, i had a dragon tuning box for about 3 months but the pause about 2000 revs ish as it kicked in drove me crazy.

I couldn't live with the pause as it was really intrusive in everyday driving conditions. But i love the pull on the motorway from the dragon box.

I assume a remap will be very smooth to the red line??

Matt

my clutch will last just fine, its rated to 600ft lbs:eek:so a big:Pback at you;)

it will still wear more quickly using 2nd gear launches;)

Yeah i found the remap better, pulled to the redline and had good low down pull like the dragon box. I was surprised how well it pulled to the redline compared to the box but i did have a pd160 and green filter installed with remap so they may help abit higher in the revs.

Paul.

So is it worth remapping a standard 100 Tdi PD.

Mines was already done but i would have done it anyway.

My reason - To go quicker (also why im bolting on a big turbo shortly LOL)

The standard map is a bit deceiving though. All that shove suddenly at 2k makes it feel faster than it is, and you soon start to realise the car in standard form is not that fast.

Run it up against a standard Mondeo 2.2 TDCi/ Merc C220 CDi, BMW 320d etc and you soon find the car wanting. Plus as has been said, it just does not rev, period. Huge flat spot at 3k and it's out of puff by 3.5.

To be honest, with the sheer weight of the thing 170bhp should've been standard. Would at least made it kind of hot hatchy.

best get saving for a new engine then

Only kidding, mine is special ;)

You must have broke it :finger::rofl:

Should be fine at 200bhp, just want safe power and a car that will last me a good few years :D

Try putting down an extra 100bhp ;) then you have problems

Wheels spins in 1st 2nd AND 3rd if your mash the go throttle.

You have to learn to feed the power in, and make use of the extra top end breathing

So you aren't even able to use all the power you've paid for! ;)

Even with an LSD you need to moderate the loud pedal artfully. If you leave the ASR on and simply stomp it, you get blinky lights very quickly.

The limiting factor is how much tyre grip you have - it's a FWD and this is typical.

Once you're rolling you can use 90% of the power in the higher gears and 100% on the highway.

Shifty managed 6.2sec 0-60 and 14.75 0-100, but that guy really can drive.....

Was it all worth it IMHO - hell yes!

Thank you for the replies. Emily, you asked: "Why did you buy a Fabia vRS over a normal Fabia PD100 elegance for example? I mean, for the same/less money you can get a better spec'd car and more mpg". Well, I asked the salesman about a car that would be able to go up the motorway inclines without resorting to 3rd gear in the crawler lane, and he suggested the vRS model as having good pull, and I did ask about other models, but he was lukewarm about them. I am not sure about the equipment levels in the other cars, but the vRS does have a CD player and air con, which I have never had in a car before. All in all I am pleased with the car, but if it can be made better then I am interested!

Cheers, Ian

"IF you mash the throttle"

You can still use all the power, you just have to feed it in gradually. Which isnt a problem for me, I dont drive flat out everywhere. ;)

I'm with Bas on this one, Id defo do it all again  In fact i am, after suffering engine failure

Precisely. Drive many cars these days like a **** and you'll overwhelm the tyres - it's nothing unusual. M3's, Supras, 350Z's blah blah blah. Do the manufacturers reduce the amount of power because they can light up they're driving wheels? No. They just do it based on the understanding the drivers of said cars feed in the power to get the most of their cars.

One thing people are forgetting in all of this though is how a decent map actually makes the car less likely to spin/ lose traction. The standard one dumps all it's power at 1800rpm, whereas a nice map will spread that power (albeit an increased amount) over a wider rev band thus reducing the likelyhood of you shredding your Michelin Ditchfinders.

Mine's a PD100 and has absolutely no problem with motorway inclines in 5th.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

I went for my remap (Jabba) for a few reasons:

1. Quicker car

2. Better economy

3. Fun :D

I am happy to report I have all three! :)

The car you have got is a great motorway cruiser for a smallish hatchback. I like how well mine pulls up hills, over takes with ease etc. Remapping is by no means the be all and end all but it does make a difference. At the end of the day, if the standard power is sufficiant for your needs then great, saves money in the long run on the mapping costs and insurance hikes.

Out of interest, how many of you who have remapped your car, have since had problems with it, which you suspect are down to the extra power / torque?

And how many of you with the chipped cars, do high mileage - i.e. 20,000+ miles per annum?

I have to say that I'm very content with my standard car, but that might be down to the Impreza I have sat at home, for those moments when I want that bit more entertainment...

How many of us have gone back to a stock map?

Mine's a PD100 and has absolutely no problem with motorway inclines in 5th.

I second that. My PD 100 Has really surprised me. It performs superbly on the motorway, does not run out of puff up hills and will cruise at 80 mph all day long and comfortable too.

It felt really slow as a standard car.

It felt better with a map and decent suspension.

Our 50-60 hp skoda pickup drives better and quicker on the motorway at speeds between 70 and 90 than it does on normal roads between 30 and 60.... :D
