Sooty rear end- Anything to worry about?

Featured Replies

I've noticed the back end of my vRS has always shown some sooty specks around the exhaust. These seem to have grown in number since swapping to V-Power. Could you guys check the photo's below and let me know if this is normal or not? Probably around 700 or so miles since it was last washed.

No smoke that I've noticed. And the amount of unleaded I've stuck in it over the last 10k I hope it isn't a diesel :P

Since that photo (400 miles or so) there is noticably more soot smuts :( I don't notice this on other cars... then again I'm not really looking for it in all honesty. Just don't want to be running around with a problem that needs resolving.

My old one used to do this when it was driven hard.

Could it be that the v-power is cleaning out carbon deposits? You might find it stops eventually... Just a thought.

But I only use it to drive to church on Sundays and never go over 40 mph ;)

Could well be I guess. Previous owner used to run it on regular, well so I gather from the reciept in the ashtray but that might have just been a top up to see him through as he was selling it. Before swapping to V-Power a couple of months back I used to run it on regular or ocassionally Sainsbury's super, neither of which have the cleaning agents they claim to put in V-Power.
