Fabia Rear Fog Light

Featured Replies

My VRS has just one rear fog - like many cars. However, in this case, rather than the manufacturer saving the cost of a bulb and blanking the other space off, they've used a dual filament bulb - I assume it can be just as easy as swapping the other bulb for a dual filament - has anyone tried this?

I think the other side has a twin connector in the bulb holder but one of the pins isnt wired so only the 5w side light comes on.

Some of the Audis wre like this, used to get customers fitting single pin bulbs in them and wondering why when they braked the front side lights come on, does all sorts of wierd things.

A number of Octavia owners have wired up a second rear foglight and it is quite an easy exercise if you can get the right connector to push into the terminal block. This FAQ explains how to do it to an Octavia.

The bulb in the other side is a twin filament bulb. All you need to do is crimp a piece of wire to the existing fog light wire and (after stripping some of the insulation away) wedging it in the other connectors spare hole. It works fine and is simpler to do by looking at it that it seems.

THanks for the advice. I looked at it this evening and you are quiet right - both lights are twin filament - I can understand why manufacturers do this to save the cost of a bulb, after all 10p when you sell millions of cars must soon add up!, but when it saves nothing I can't see the point. I think I'll leave it alone and enjoy driving the car instead - mainly because if I start crimping anything on the car, my wife is likely to crimp something of mine!

If you do want to do this its relatively simple....... If people want it will post details and photos....

cant understand why it isnt standard!! one more solder to the loom must be about the same price as the dual filament. at the same time cant understand why there is such a need for two rear lights - for the number of times they're used.

Andy, If you don't mind posting deatils, I may give it a go.

I agree that they are rarely used, but when you do need them it is useful to have two instead of one. I drive abroad where the need for two lights is obvious - in addition, if one fails you have the other one as back-up - apart from that, it is just stupid penny pinching!

ok give me a week or so and if I not done it nag me......

surely if you are coming up behind someone in fog whether at home or abroad it doesnt matter which fog light is working as long as you are visible! have also driven abroad a few times and cant remember any mandatory need to get extra rear fogs.

can remember the guy at dover selling spare bulbs at extortionate rates tho- and these are needed by law in some countries.

note to self - set up spare bulb business somewher near a border in the E.U.!
