Gearbox swap???

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried doing a gearbox swap/ upgrade on a Felicia 1.6? I know its the VW AEE engine.

Ideally I would like to fit a VW 020 type gearbox -bigger range of ratios than the stock Skoda item.. has anyone done it?? any idea on drive shaft lengths/ or what mountings to use?

Suggestions please...

the 020 box wont fit on the aee engine because the bellhousing is different, however the 085 boxes will fit

i have a 1.3mpi does this mean a gearbox off a 1.6 felicia would fit?

yes, it's a direct swop, in fact i have a 1300 box on my 1600

thanks :) thinking of putting a turbo on my 1300 thought it might need stronger box, any recomendations on what turbo size i should use?

dont bother with the skoda boxes then, they are crap!

gonna need a little bit more info such as pressure ratios, and density ratios/intercooling efficiencies and what compression ratio you will be running, also you need to decide what sort of running characteristics you want.... such as lots of high end power - or low down power with no lag, you cannot have both:O

matching a turbo to an engine is a lot more difficult than some might think, you need to know the diameter of all of the pipes to calculate the best a/r ratio (aperture radius) of both turbines, but generally speaking, smaller a/r ratios favour low down boost at the cost of high rpm flow rate, his is where vnt turbochargers are good because you get the best of both worlds.

my advice is to select a turbocharger that was come from a similar size engine such as a fiat uno (1300cc) or a renault 5 (1400cc) as a starting point, with turbo's, bigger is not necessarily better:)
