Mk1 Octy Vrs Running rich

Featured Replies

Hi all hopefully somebody will be able to help with this and will be greatly appreciated.

Have recently converted my Skoda Octavia Vrs (mk 1) to lpg. On cold start with petrol the idle is hunting and lumpy, engine warning had come on as well, got it diagnostic checked and it said that it was running rich on one bank. The garage that fitted the Prins lpg system claim that this has nothing to do with the conversion. However this has never happened before and my Vrs has been completly reliable since I got it from new, seems like too much of a coincidence to me as this happened the day after it was converted. Advice/help please!!!!!!

Could be a lambda sensor playing up

Or the classic "split pipe under manifold"

Can you hear a hissing at all when the engine is running?

Thanx do you know a way of checking this. The garage that did the conversion are reluctant to take any responsibility.

Thanx will check that tommorow when I get it back.

That error code is sometimes a result of having the 17705 (pressure drop) present for a period of time.

I had the 17705 for atleast 6 months, and now it brings up that rich error aswell.

Don't think it can be a leaking vac hose for me, as I replaced one already and can't see any other leaky ones.

I have no idea what causes the rich fault, so will be watching this thread!

It's kinda irritating!

It's need a scan of the ecu for fault codes.

You need VAG-COM or someone on here near to you who can help in return for some beer tokens :)

My mates owns a garage and hes just had in a 04 range rover with lpg fitted ,it came in for the head gasket doing.

my buddy was shocked at the workmanship of the lpg system all the rubber pipes were just laid on the engine and when he moved them they leaked gas.

when he took off the inlet manifold theyre was ally filings inside the inlet were the gas fitter had drilled into the inlet manifold to put the jets in.also on one chamber he drilled through and missed and put a bolt in the hole and tryed again. shocking workmanship my buddy let the customer know so he could go back to the garage or trading standards etc.

with the sound of yours theyve bust pipe or it could be leaking air from somewhere but bet your bacon is down to the fitters:thumbup:

Thanx

Is the 17705 you mentioned the initial fault which then triggers the running rich problem.

The faults were read and the only one that appeared was the running rich on bank 1 does that eliminate the lambda sensor

Got it sorted it was the coil pack!!!

You only have 1 bank....lol.

Coil pack on cylinder one would just cause a missfire and would be pretty easy to diagnose.

Yeah as Lummox says, it's a straight 4 so just the one bank anyway, and it's kinda obvious if a coil pack has gone.

You sure it's sorted? Get the codes read in a week and see if it's come back. If it is sorted then nice one, but if it comes back have a look into some of the things people have mentioned above.

Unplug the coil they replaced, and see if the car feels like it did when you had the problem.

Good luck with it anyway buddy
