Very odd tyre wear!?!

Featured Replies

Hi. I have Avon ZV3 tyres fitted to my Fabia Vrs. The ones on the front were getting a bit low so I decided to swap them for the rears.

When I took the rears off I noticed they have worn on the inside edges in flat spots are the way round, kind of like a 50p peice!?!

A friend said they'd had something simiar on a mk3 golf and it turned out to be the rear shocks amking the tyre judder up and down.

I've checked my shocks and they seam fine. Now that they're on the front I have quite loud road noise.

I think I'm going to have to replace them but wondered if anyone had any ideas as I don't want it to happen again. Could it be the tyres? I replaced one not too long ago as it had a bulge in the side wall :thumbdwn:

Thanks, Luko.

Reckon you could be right when you say its shocks mate. Or it could be just tyre pressure way out ??

Strange choice of tyre for a vrs as well though

Hi. Tyre pressures are fine. Are Fortuna tyres any good?

maybe they weren't balanced up right??

It is probably the fact its an avon tyre. They are well known for going out of shape. dont worry to much about the wear, ive had the same thing. I put nankang tyres on and the problem never came back. Hope this helps

They are a buget tyre

this is true... i had them on my vRS, and they destroyed themselved... changed them early because I was worried about vibration , noise, and lack of grip... tyre place showed me the inside of one tyre had split (inside!) where the tyre wall met the tread, said it had gone oval, and could have popped at any time!

Standard for an Avon tyre im afraid, although the new ZV5 is supposed to be good..... Leave the shocks till you have done 5k at least

Thanks for the replies people. I won't be getting any more Avons then! One of mine has cracked round the inside wall as well.

Just wondering if there's any decent tyres that won't cost me too much. I've been offered Fortuna, Kuhmo, etc.

Any advise?

Kumho are ok used to have them on the Octy.... Falken are reasoably priced if you can get them

I've just got some falkens (512's) grips not that good, but at least they wont fall apart and they were cheap (£50 each) the 912's are aparantly better, but still not up with the mjor brands...

if you want a budget one, I'd try the khumo's

If you want a real tyre bridgestone re050a's ... bloody expensive, althought the best tyre I've ever used....

Just saw this in new posts. Another one who'd say "it's an Avon, innit?" I've never known a decent Avon, in a history going back about 25 years now.

Toyo T1-R. They are a firm favourite on here with a good mix of performance, wear and price.

I have them on mine and think they are spot on.

Yes mate, just last week ive put 4 new toyo's on, you should pay around 80 a tyre, which is a fair bit of cash , but what price do you put on your life eh ??

They seem to be the choice value for money tyre for the vrs.

You can get Toyo's cheaper that that but I would agree that they are very good.

I've got some falkens 452's on the golf at the minute and they are good for the price...
