312's causing a bit of shaking?

Featured Replies

I've had my 312's from Golf Turbo fitted for about three weeks now, local independent fitted them for me after I'd painted them with the old hammerite smooth green.

They are obviously a big improvement on the standard items, but I'm getting a bit of feedback through the steering wheel, bit of a wobble.

Haven't yet managed to narrow down when it happens, doesn't seem to happen at low speeds, doesn't seem to happen if I'm braking whilst turning, straight line from about 40 or 50mph and the steering wheel moves side to side slightly.

Check the tire pressures yesterday and all was fine, could it be as simple as needing the alloys rebalancing? They've not been balanced by me, Audi TT's reconditioned and fitted when my KW suspension was put on last year.

The brakes should be nicely bedded in, done around 500 mile with them on now, no major breaking incidents when I've been driving, dunno about swmbo like!!

warped discs? wheels off balance?

Loose wheel bolts, wheel not fitted correctly.

Could even be knackered console bushes. Added braking force is now pushing them back.

Cr*p between a hub and the disc? So the disc isn't running true.

Had that on a 205 once...

I had a service done to my car, new pads and discs and i get the same problem mate, tends to be most noticeable at 60 upwards, kinda like the wheel balancing is out!

I would go with Ross on this one :)

It might be worth giving them a bit of hard use in case they aren't fully bedded in - I'm sure that because they are so effective and because my daily commute is mainly on dual carriageway (where I tend to regulate my speed by lifting off the accelerator, rather than braking) it took me far more than 500 miles before my 312s settled in and lost their "grabbiness".

Thanks for all the comments guys. I'll do a bit of digging on the console bushes, these are an easy upgrade I'm sure, I'll search on that one.

bmjb99: you may be right, it's only a minor inconvenience at the moment, so I'm in no rush, I'll see how they settle down over the coming weeks.
