Is there a Good AirCon Company in BRISTOL someone can recommend

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this post is in the wrong area

Hi Guys and Gals,

Has anyone from the BRISTOL area, used an AIRCON Company that they could/would recommend.

I bought a 1999 1.6 GLXi Octavia last year and am unsure of the condition of the AIRCON.

IT WORKS, but it doesn't seem to get as cold as I would expect it to. With the summer expected to reach

way into the 90's :) I would like it to work efficiently. Don't want to melt when stuck in those holiday jams

whilst our 2 kids complain it's tooooooo hot.

I would like to get it checked out and re-gassed? if needed.

Not sure what these companies charge for this kind of work.

Does it have to go to a specialist or can most garages carry out a check and re-gas?

Any HELP or SUGGESTIONS would be appreciated.

(This is my first car with AIRCON)

Cheers, Peter.

Hi natesvRS

I live in Postishead, about 12 miles (approx) out of Bristol.

I moved here from Manchester in November 2003 and the hardest thing I've found is that I'm still finding my way around and trying to find where to get things done.

I've already dealt with 2 local garages and I swear won't use either again.

Cheers, Peter.

A very common problem with the aircon on Mk1 octavias is that the clutch for the compressor falls apart , and that's a very expensive repair - over £1k at a dealer.

Hopefully it would just need a re-gas and won't be that serious but it is worth bearing in mind.

I don't normally recommend Kwik Fit , but they have an offer on where they will check and regas your aircon for £45 which is a good price , and if it doesn't fix the problem it's free.

Other Products :: Air Conditioning

That would be my first port of call

Hi Dr Zoidberg

Thanks for the info, sounds a good offer at Kwik Fit, may be worth a call.

After reading some of the threads on here, I'm going to check the parts over as suggested.

I don't fancy an expensive repair that could cost as much as the cars worth.:(

Cheers, Peter.

I have just used a company in Keynsham to regass my AMG Merc and they only charged me £30(cash,or £30+vat otherwise) to do it and all seemed fine afterwards. If it is just a regass that is needed, and refrigeration place can do it though.

The company i used was called KOOL-CAR and they were at Unit 18,Lays Business Centre,Charlton Rd,Keynsham.BS31 2SE.

The guy that done it was called Nathan.

I've used manor tyres on the A38 in filton... it's just past the toyota garage and before the Esso garage... again, £45 quid for a regass... and if they don't get it cooler than it is then you don't pay for it! (this way if it's not the gas you won't pay for it)... I go there all the time for nagly little things and MOT's

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to answer my question.

I used the link to KWIK FIT in Bristol, got it done this Sunday for the quote of £44.95.

They were helpful and showed how it all worked, it was a simple process of checking the temperature (17), then connecting to an AIRCON rig and off it went. 45mins later it had finished and gave the results on a print out. The temp was checked again and it had dropped to 8. It passed with no problems and works great.

Cheers, Peter.
