Buying a new Octi

Featured Replies

Hi

Has anyone had any experience of buying a new car over the interent from Autofinders Ltd (or similar type companies) ?

Their prices are cheaper than main dealers but you always think there is a catch. Will Skoda main dealers honnour all the warranties? if something goes wrong do you simply go to a local Skoda dealer with it... and how happy would the dealer be about that?

Any thoughts / experiences appreciated

Thanks

I also initially engaged Autofinders for my new Octy, but found that the car would be pre-registerd (which may or may not be a problem) and the part ex value they offered me was poor.

I have used CARFILE to buy two new cars and they were excellent as were the skoda dealers they deal/dealt with.

On my first car, a fabia estate, i had a couple of warranty issues and the local dealer here was happy to sort out, once confirmation sorted from head office.

I used Broadspeed and found them helpful and the whole deal went through without a hitch. Carfile were good, but not quite as cheap with all the options i added.

I used drivethedeal.com gotta say it was a pretty effortless procedure!

If they are saying they apply a first registration fee doesn't that mean that you are the first registered owner?

Used drive the deal, after innitially placing the order over the net and a single phone call from them, then the rest of the procedure was with the supplying Skoda main dealer.

I investigated these suppliers before buying my new Elegance, (Anthracite Grey Metallic.) It appeared that most of them were european spec cars and not directly comparable to the UK models. I then EMailed half a dozen nearest Skoda dealers and asked for their lowest nett quote, (No part ex.)

Most of them got back to me and I negotiated a brand new 08 reg at a cut price with 10% lifetime discount on spares and service, pick up and delivery from my home and a free courtesy car while in for any service. The end price was very similar to the internet sites.

I got a quote from auto ebid but then haggled with the local stealers and in the end paid £200 more which was probably worth it given the teething troubles. Got some free coffee & had two test drives (one of which was a 5hr one).

But if they use UK delaers, then you will get a UK spec car. With the options I added to my Elegance in 2006 and a part exchange, I actually saved just over 12 percent on list price.

Although that does explain why the dealer went bust half way through. Fair play to Sparshatts who agreed to take on the deal after a nod from someone here and a bit of help from SkodaUK.

I got the best online price I could find, then when to my dealer and said beat that.

So they did by £1, I said you have a deal ;)

I tried that with my local dealer, there was lots of scratching heads, consultations with other staff members and in the end, I was told and I quote 'don't know how you've got a price that low, we can't get anywhere near it'. When I pushed on what sort of discount I could get get, I was told three or four hundred pounds off - and I was a cash buyer.

Twice this has happened with the same dealer, so I came to the simple conclusion that they obviously have too much business.

In fairness, Skoda were doing a free trim upgrade at the time. An Eligance for Ambient money:)

I shopped around on the internet then went to a couple of local dealers in the end plumped for the one who I struck a bit of rapport with and he came within £100 or so of the best internet price and the service since purchase has been excellent
