Removed CD du change, but what about net?

Featured Replies

Finally got round to taking out my redundant CD changer yesterday (Got an Alpine HU with eyeprod control and USB electric witchcraft, so changer wasn't connected).

Good god it's heavy! I recon I've saved a good 7ish kg (measured using my withered arms). 0.015mpg added?

I realised I needed to remove the supporting bracket to complete the job, which came off easily, but I wasn't sure whether or not to put the bolts back in that go through the wing, into the bumper. Luckily I did, as I see they hold the bumper on! Could have been funny!

So, yeah, more room in my already silly sized boot.

Finally I get to my question... My silly net thing is rubbish on the other side of the boot, as the bar holding the top of the net always falls down. How do I remove this plastic frame thing so I can re-engineer it to be good? I tried pulling and tugging at the poxy thing but it wouldn't come free, and I couldn't see how you can get it out.

Does anyone know?

Merci.

How easy was it to remove the cable? I started to remove mine and then realised that the cable was tied into the loom and that it was pretty solidly attached to the changer itself which seemed to remove the possibility of just unplugging it there..

There is a wire that comes out of the bottom of the changer, about 6-8 inches long (iirc) that then plugs into the main car loom.

Yeah like said, if you follow the wire off the changer back behind the carpet for about 6 inches. The connector on mine was wrapped up in a little foam sock and zip tied tight, presumably to stop it getting wet. Rolled back the sock, and unplugged the changer from the loom.

Initially I did unscrew the small cover on the changer, where the cable goes in, expecting it to just be a plug, but as you've found there is no plug there it just wires directly into the unit. It's good the way it is though, as it means i don't have a bunch of wires floating about. I just covered the plug with the foam sock again, and tucked it away.

Do it, CD changers are so 90's man!

Hmm...that doesn't seem to be the case on my 05 plate as the wire just goes straight from the loom into the changer as far as I can see having pulled the whole lot off.

Edit - aha! I will try doing as you suggest. I've already got the Alpine 9884 in there and just want to remove the changer to stop it getting clogged with dust and crap from the boot. I may even be tempted to chuck a proper Alpine one in there as I know someone who has one spare although that would mean pulling the headunit out again and that's something I really don't want to do. My knuckles have only just recovered from the last time I did it!

Cheers
